jacobs coat card technique

jacobs coat card technique

Jacob’s Coat is an easy, fun and colorful technique. I started with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ Basic White piece of cardstock. I applied daubs of color in Real Red (#147084), Poppy Parade (#147050), Melon Mambo (#147051), Daffodil Delight (#147094), Mango Melody (#147093), Flirty Flamingo (#147052), Gorgeous Grape (#147099) ink with Sponge Daubers (#141714).
OK at this point it looks like a hot mess – doesn’t it! but just wait I promise the end result will be stunning! (If you have an Embossing Buddy – these are retired from stamping up but well worth the investment if you can find one – this is an antistatic little pillow filled with a chalking substance that puts a thin coat over the cardstock surface to stop the powder from sticking anywhere but on the Versamark inked areas – rub it on the cardstock surface) Next I pulled out my Stamparatus (#149276) and mounted the Butterfly Brillance stamp set (#155092) to the hinged plate and inked the stamp with a freshly inked Versamark Pad (#102283) and then stamped the butterfly images over the colored piece of cardstock.
Apply Clear embossing powder over the entire surface. Tap away the excess powder and heat set with a Heat Tool (#129053).
Rub Tuxedo Black Momento Ink direct to the paper until the entire surface is covered and then using a paper towel rub the excess black ink off the embossed portions of the card front and the color emerges like magic!
I finished this card by adding a Gorgeous Grape Sheer ribbon (#154572) wrapped around the colored cardstock layer then mounted that layer onto a Basic white cardstock layer measuring 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ and then mounted those two layers onto a Real Red cardstock base measuring 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored in the center at 4 1/4″
The card I made in the Facebook Live video I did not use the Embossing buddy and did not brush off the excess powder so it is not as defined as the first card shown above. If you do not have an embossing buddy you can try a soft bristle brush dipped in a small amount of cornstarch and brushed onto the card surface (I haven’t tried this myself because I have an embossing buddy but am told this trick works)
Here is another sample everyone is a little different depending upon the colors used below
gilded leafing embedded image – my own technique!!

gilded leafing embedded image – my own technique!!

Not to toot my own horn – but I do have to tell you how proud I am about this – it’s a technique I have not seen on the internet so it is one I made up!! I’m calling it Gilded Leafing Embedded Image Technique. I wanted to show lots of different ways to use the new Gilded Leafing Embellishment that became available in the new January to June 2021 Mini catalog (#154560) featured with the Fine Art Floral Suite, it is a gorgeous, delightfully soft gold leaf product that sticks to anything sticky so there are so many ways to use and adhere this to add unbelievable shine to your projects! In this Card sample, I started with a half sheet 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ of Poppy Parade cardstock (#119793) Scored at 4 1/4″ with my Stampin’ Trimmer (#152392) and creased the fold with a bone folder (#102300). I then adhered three layered Die cuts from the Perennials Petals Dies set (#154321) to the upper center of the card front and covered this embellishment with varying lengths of Tear and Tape Adhesive (#138995).

Remove the paper backing from the Tear and Tape Adhesive after fully covering the die cut or other desired embellishment (I have two other examples below – one using the Butterfly Wings double die and another using the Square Vellum Doilies (#152484))

Apply a layer of Gilded Leafing to the adhesive and rub in with your finger. Using a hard bristle brush, I brushed the excess back in to the jar of Gilded Leafing (#154560) for another use.

I then placed a cello bag or you can save and use the left over paper from our sequin or dots adhesives (the shiny paper that holds those embellishments – the non stick papers) and burnished the leafing with my bone folder – this will allow the image embedded below the gilding to “pop” forward and allow the image to be more pronounced! Isn’t that fun!

I finished the card with a die cut from the Stitched So Sweetly die set (#153828) for the sentiment that came from the Pretty Perennials stamp set (#154435) in Poppy Parade ink (#147050).  I added a few Artistry Blooms (#152477) sequins from the Artistry Blooms Suite (#154150).

This sample of the Gilded Leafing Embedded Image Technique uses the Butterfly Wings Dies (#155523) the detailed die adhered to the same butterfly solid image and then adhered to the card before covering it with Tear and Tape adhesive. (#138995) I used the Butterfly Bijou DSP (#156824) mounted on Bermuda Bay cardstock base (##131197) and the Artistry Blooms Sequins. (#152477) The sentiment is from the Peaceful Moments stamp set (#151595) embossed using Versamark (#102283) and white embossing powder (#109132) and set with a heat tool (#129053) on a Black piece of cardstock (#121045) die cut with the smallest square from the Stitched Shapes die set (#152323)

This is my original sample using the Square Vellum Doilies (#152484) using the same technique! Love the way this turned out! This has a more distressed look as I did not use the paper over the Gilded leafing. I like both looks!

I added a sentiment from the Art Gallery stamp set (#154421) stamped with the Tuxedo Black Momento ink (#132708).

For this sample I used the Basic Patterns Decorative Masks (#150697). I secured the mask down with washi tape and placed a 4″ x 5 1/4″ Basic White piece of Cardstock (#159276) underneath the mask. I pressed a freshly inked Versamark ink pad (#102283) through the mask. I then applied and embossed with Heat and Stick powder (#156110) and a heat tool (#129053) until just melted this becomes an adhesive (this will not be as long as normal embossing powders – Do NOT overheat or it will lose it’s stickiness!) Then cover the Heat and Stick “glue” with the Gilded Leafing embellishment (#154560) and rub until all the sticky surfaces are covered. Brush away excess back in to the container. I finished the card with die cuts from the Stitched Rectangle Die set (#151820) in Basic White cardstock (#159276) and Gold Metallic Foil (#132622) and Metallic Pearls (#146282). The sentiment is from the Lovely You stamp set (#152525).

This card sample uses the Polka Dots images from the same Decorative Mask set as the previous card and the same technique. The sentiment uses the same Heat and Stick powder method and is from the Ridiculously Awesome Stamp set (#152512) and is stamped on layered dies from the Stitched So Sweetly set (#151690).
This next card sample uses a different way to apply the Gilded Leafing – After stamping the flower and leaf stamp from the Art Gallery Stamp set (#154421) I embossed the Basic White layer with the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder (#154317) and then applied a strip of Stampin’ Seal adhesive to the lower portion of the card. The second two step stamping portion of the flower was done using the heat and stick powder method previously detailed above before embossing with the 3D folder. The sequins are from the Artistry Blooms suite.

,This sample uses the Art Gallery Bundle (#156227) and I applied Multipurpose Liquid Glue (#110755) and allowed it to dry to the tacky stage then applied the Gilded flakes to the sticky parts of the flower, rubbing it in and brushing off the excess.

This sample uses the Versamark and Heat and Stick powder technique but used a Versamark pad that was not freshly inked and only lightly applied to create the speckled, spotty coverage look. I also used the beautiful Fine Art ribbon (#154561). I covered the solid butterfly image fully by firmly pressing the Versamark pad over the entire surface.
This sample uses the Tear and Tape Adhesive to create the striped background! The dragonfly was stamped with Staz-on on Vellum and punched out, the sentiment is from the Peaceful Moments stamp set. The Gold Foil layer and the sentiment layer are die cut from the Stitched Rectangle die set.
Using a card from a previous week’s Facebook Live Alcohol and Stampin’ Blends background technique – I used the Fine Tip Glue pen (#138309) – this glue is not designed to dry tacky or dry slowly so I used this on vellum to allow the glue to stay wetter longer. I drew veining to mimick marble on this sample and adhered the Butterfly die cuts above the vellum!
The Gilded Leafing is such a fun and easy product to use – I hope you get a chance to try it and as always go enjoy and create art one stamp at a time!

diagonal z fold butterfly bouquet card

diagonal z fold butterfly bouquet card

Today’s Blog post is a card I featured in last Thursday’s Card class and yesterday’s Sunday night Facebook Live! It is another fun fold card – this one is called a Diagonal Z fold and I was inspired by several videos from fellow demonstrators. This card starts with a regular sized 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of cardstock. Scored at 4 /14″ and 2 1/8″.
Measurements:

Calypso Coral Cardstock (#122925)
*5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 2 1/8″ and 4 1/4″
Butterfly Bijou DSP (#156824)
4″ x 5 1/4″
a complimentary design at 1 7/8″ x 5 1/4″
scraps for embellishing

Make a tick mark at 2 inches from the bottom of the Calypso Coral (#122925) base cardstock to the left of the short 2 1/8″ section. I place the card at the 2″ mark on the Stampin’ Trimmer (#152392) and ran my bone folder (#in the groove of the paper cutter to make a small notch in the paper to mark a tick mark.

Placing the tick mark in the cutting grove and the 4 1/4″ score line also in the cutting groove
Cut from the tick mark to the top of that score mark.
This is what the card will look like at this point in the cutting and scoring process!

Take the 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Butterfly Bijou DSP (#156824) and make a tick mark at 1 3/4″ and do the same diagonal cut from the tick mark to the corner of the DSP. (Cut from the flat edge to the corner as the corner is fragile and can buckle or accordion if pushed to cut from that side!)

Take the diagonally cut piece of DSP and cut a 1/4″ piece out of the middle – the easiest way to do this is to cut the paper from the edge in 1 7/8″ from each side and you will end up with a 1/4″ piece cut from the middle.
Take the 1 7/8″ x 5 1/4″ piece of complimentary DSP and make a tick mark at 1 3/4″ and cut diagonally to the corner.
Adhere the papers to the inside left and center panels, leaving an even border.
Take the 1 7/8″ x 5 1/4″ piece of complimentary DSP and make a tick mark at 1 3/4″ and cut diagonally to the corner. Adhere this to the front center panel as shown in the picture below.
Add embellishments to the card. I added two die cuts from the Butterfly Bijou DSP (#156824) using the Butterfly wings (#155523) die set and another for the front of the card using the more detailed butterfly dies in Basic White cardstock (#159276).
I added a sentiment from the Peaceful Moments (#151595) stamp set and stamped it all the way to the left near the score line so that the sentiment is hidden when the card is closed. I also used a Calypso Coral Stampin’ Write marker from the Many Marvelous Markers set (#147154) or the Subtles Marker assortment (#147156) to free hand draw a dotted line to make it look like the butterfly is flying from the words toward the outside of the card!
Here is another version of the card using Basic White cardstock (#159276) and Blushing Bride (#131198) cardstock and Sand and Sea Designer Series Paper (154288)!
And if you missed last night’s Facebook live where I demonstrate this diagonal Z fold card above feel free to take a peek at it!
Here are a few pictures of the card I created in the Facebook Live. I added the smaller triangle that I cut from the second complimentary 1 7/8″ x 5 1/4″ DSP and mounted it to the lower right hand corner and moved the smaller patterned butterfly to the lower left hand corner and added that smaller detailed die cut butterfly that I was looking for during the video!
Hope you enjoyed this new Diagonal Z Fold fun fold card!

butterfly bijou vertical easel card

butterfly bijou vertical easel card

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! So today I made a green Easel card to share with you – no shamrocks just butterflies but it’s a fun one! Easel cards use a pop up on the inside of the card to allow the front panel to catch and be able to make the card “stand up” on it’s own.
I cased this card from a card made by Margaret Keep that was sent to a fellow demonstrator in Australia, Kylie Bertucci. Thanks for the great idea!

Measurements:
5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of colored cardstock
2 – 2 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ pieces of Basic White CS
2 – 2″ x5 1/4″ pieces of DSP
one piece of 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of DSP
a small butterfly cut from the DSP
take the extra DSP and cut an oval from the second largest oval in the Stitched Shapes Die set
an extra piece of Just Jade for the die cut oval

Cut a piece of Just Jade (#153079) cardstock in half to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″. Score at 4 1/4″ and 2 1/8″.
Layer the DSP on the two Basic White layers and adhere them to the two front panels of the card.
Layer the die cut DSP onto a piece of Just Jade cut from the largest oval die in the Stitched Shapes die set (#152323). Add four mini dimensionals to the score line in the middle of the two front panels.
Adhere the front layered ovals to the mini dimensionals (#144108) on the score line. Adhere the 1/2 ” piece of DSP to the inside of the card, fussy cut a small butterfly from the DSP (I adhered this butterfly to a pice of basic white cardstock for more stability) and pop it up with mini dimensionals so that the mini butterfly will stop the front panel from closing when bent into a triangle position!
The card is able to stand up on a table or desk as a fun decoration in this position!
I tried the Butterfly closure in two different positions – Which one do you like better on the bottom or in the middle?

Hope you enjoyed this project and as always…

Color one side of the vellum with alternating patches of blends colors.

Continue adding swatches of alternating color until you cover the entire cardstock piece.

Fill a Stampin’ Spritzer (#126185) with 90% to 99% alcohol and lightly spritz the colored side of the vellum. allow to dry and turn over to use. I used Tuxedo Black Memento ink (#132708) with the sentiments from the Pretty Perennials stamp set (#154435) from the January to June mini catalog. Looks messy and will not look even remotely like this at the end! Spritz and watch the magic unfold!
