gate fold explosion card

gate fold explosion card

OK are we all in agreement any card that explodes outward towards the recipient has a great WOW factor! and this one does not disappoint!

Measurements:
Real Red CS : 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 2 3/4″ from
each side on the 11″ side
Designer Series Paper 4″ x 10 3/4″ scored at
2 5/8 from each long side!
Basic White insert: 3 3/4″ x 5 1/4″ marked at
1 7/8″ on both short sides and at 2 5/8″ at
each long side and score from mark to mark
the whole way around the insert making four
connecting score lines.
Front panels:
Basic White CS: 4″ x 5 1/4″
DSP: 3 3/4″ x 5″
scrap pieces of garden green for the Holly leaves and sentiment layer
Belly Band:
Real Red 1″ x 11″
DSP 3/4″ x 12″

Cut and Score the CS and DSP as described in the measurement section above
After the initial scoring of the Designer series paper, fold the score lines in towards the center and with a pencil mark the outside edges at 2″ mark and both ends. With the two side pieces folded in the back piece measures 5 1/2″ from score line to score line. We want to mark the center of that back piece at 2 3/4″ (or if it is easier for you open the paper the whole way and find the center of 10 3/4″ and mark the top and bottom at 5 3/8″)
Once you’ve marked the center both ways fold the score lines in and place the 2″ mark in the scoring track of your Stampin’ Trimmer and align the mark at 2 3/4″ in the other side of the track – repeat this process until all four diagonal lines are scored (see diagram below)
Fold the score lines as if pinching in towards each other as shown in photo below and using a bone folder burnish each score line to allow the explosion portion to lie as flat as possible!
Place the diamond shaped folded explosion portion of the card in the center of the card base and using Stampin’ Seal+ or TearNTape secure the top to the scored folded right side
Adhere the left side of the explosion piece to the scored fold on the left side of the base.
Cut, stamp and adhere the insert to the center of the explosion piece.
Taking the Front panels adhere the DSP to the Basic White layer and only placing Stampin’ Seal+ to the outside of the left scored panel adhere just the left side of the front panel to the card front.
I also adhered a Holly die cut to the upper right hand portion of the card front panel.
I adhered the belly band pieces together
The DSP will be longer and you will need that length to secure the belly band the entire way around the card.
I adhered the sentiment piece on top of the 1 inch of belly band that only had DSP to hide that portion.
Make the belly band loose enough to slip on and off.
I adhered Red Rhinestones to the sentiment piece for added bling and viola a special WOW Christmas explosion card for someone special!
This is the completed card closed, opened and a close up shot of the insert decorated with matching red rhinestones!

Hope you try this fun WOW card soon! Now go out and create some art of your own – one stamp at a time!

Measurements:
Basic White Base: 5 1/4″ x 11″ scored at
1 3/4″ and 3 1/2″ from both 5 1/4″ ends
Basic Black 2 pieces of 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
1 piece of 1 1/2″ x 5″
scrap for sentiment
Sweet Sorbet: 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″
scrap for sentiment matte
Perfectly Penciled DSP: 4″ x 5 1/4″ (1)
1 1/4″ x 4 3/4″ (1) Both colored with Blends

4″ x 5 1/4″ (1) – left black and white

Score the 5 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Basic White cardstock on the 11″ side at 1 3/4″ and 3 1/2″ from the left side and then rotate the paper 180 degrees and score again at 1 3/4″ and 3 1/2″ on the opposite side of the paper. ( or you can extend the arm of the paper cutter and score at 1 3/4″, 3 1/2″ 7 1/2″ and 9 1/4″ from the left side)

I stamped a Happy Birthday sentiment from the Artistically Inked stamp set (#154542) in the center of the large back panel on the base card.

Adhere one of the Basic Black 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ sheets to the back of the center panel on the Basic white card base.
Adhere the 4″ x 5 1/4″ Perfectly Penciled piece of DSP to the second Basic black 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of CS and placing Stampin’ Seal or Tear and Tape to the outer left sided fold and adhere the black CS edge to the Basic White fold edge.
Adhere the Basic Black cardstock when the card is folded and place directly over the back Basic Black cardstock panel
With Stampin’ Blends markers (I used Sweet Sorbet (#159224), Orchid Oasis (#159223) and Parakeet Party (#159220)) color the flowers on the other two Perfectly Penciled DSP pieces and mount the smaller one to the black CS piece and the medium one to the Sweet Sorbet CS piece.
Adhere the black matted piece to the outer right hand fold.
Adhere the Sweet Sorbet CS piece to the center of the card front
Stamp a sentiment in Sweet Sorbet ink and mount on a sweet sorbet CS matte and adhere to the card front.
I added Festive Pearls from the current July to December mini catalog (these are not just for Christmas folks!) and a small velco closure to the card to help keep it closed.
Love how this can be displayed!

gate fold explosion card

gate fold explosion card

Are you looking for an easy WOW card? Well you have found it – the Gate Fold Explosion card is way simpler than it looks!

Measurements:
Blackberry Bliss Base card 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 2 1/8″ from each 5 1/2″ side
Design a Daydream DSP : 4″ x 8″ scored at
2″, 4″ 6″ and from the middle score line to the
corner points
(2) complimentary patterns to the inside cut
2″ x 5 1/4″
2 1/2″ x 4″
Basic White CS 4″ x 5 1/4″, 2 3/4″ x 4 1/4″
2 1/2″ square (inside sentiment piece)
1/2″ x 4″ (outside sentiment piece)
Blackberry Bliss 2 3/4″ square

Score the DSP 4″ x 8″ piece at 2″, 4″ and 6″ on the 8″ side.
From the bottom of the 4″ score -place that point in the cutting track and place the top left corner in the cutting track as well – score a diagonal line. From the bottom of the 4″ score line do a diagonal in the opposite direction placing the top right corner in the track and score the diagonal line.
From the top 4″ score line – place that point in the cutting track and score the line diagonally from the 4″ score mark to the bottom left corner. Then make the last diagonal line from the top 4″ score line to the bottom right corner.
Crease with a bone folder all score lines and then pinch the outside (top and bottom) score lines at 2″ and 6″ together.
Fold the base card flaps inward and adhere the white 4″ x 5 1/4″ layer to the back inside of the card base. Then adher the two 2″ x 5 1/4″ pieces to the front outside flaps.
Adhere the 2 3/4″ x 4 1/4″ white layer to the 2 1/2″ x 4″ piece of DSP and then adhere Stampin’ Seal or Stampin’ Seal Plus to the left side of the focal point and adhere to the left flap.
Adhere the outside sentiment to the DSP focal point.
Stamp the inside sentiment on the diagonal to the 2 1/2″ square Basic White piece and mount onto the Blackberry Bliss 2 3/4″ square and adhere to the center of the 4″ x 8″ scored explosion piece.
Close the center explosion mechanism and place adhesive to the outside of the DSP. Close the gate fold card over the explosion mechanism – be careful not to adhere totally in case it is lined up incorrectly! Place the folded inside edge of the diamond shape directly on the outside edge of the gate fold flaps.
Connect both sides to the end of the flaps and when you pull the flaps open the explosion mechanism pops out of the card like majic!
Finish the front of the card with embellishments and give your WOW card away!! Hope you feel inspired to try something new! Now go and create some art of your own – one stamp at a time!

hidden gate fold card

hidden gate fold card

So a gate fold card is a card scored 1/4 of the way in from the sides of the card on both sides and folded to meet in the middle – I have done these cards in the past but this is a fun variation of the gate fold. This card has a n extra piece that folds over and hides the gate fold so it is a surprise when you open up the top flap!

Measurements:
BASE: Daffodil Delight 8 1/2″ x 11″
scored at 5 1/2″ on the 11″ side
scored at 2 1/8″ on each of the 11″ sides
Inserts on gate fold :
Basic White (2) 2″ x 5 1/4″
Front flap: Basic White 4″ x 5 1/4″
Inside Base: Basic White 4″ x 5 1/4″

Using the Paper Trimmer cut along both 2 1/8″ score lines down to the 5 1/2″ score line. Turn the paper 180 degrees and cut from the outside of the paper to the 4 1/4″ score line to detach the outside top rectangles from the base card.
Trim the top edges so the top flap will be able to close over the hidden gate folds.
Burnish the score lines with a bone folder.
Stamp and color the inside layer and adhere.
Stamp, color and adhere the gate fold layers to the gate folds
Stamp color and adhere the front flap layer.
Adhere embellishments.
A fun and easy twist on the classic Gate fold card. Hope this inspires you to create some art of your own – one stamp at a time!
