keyhole cutout cards

keyhole cutout cards

A keyhole card is just a card with a die or punch cut out on the front of the card base! There are many versions and almost every punch and die cut can be used.

Measurements:
Striped card:
BASE:
Basic White Cardstock: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored
at 4 1/4″
Sweet Talk DSP 5 1/4″ x 4″
Scrap Basic Black and Basic White cardstock
for the sentiment piece
Stitched So Sweetly Die set

Heart Card:
BASE:
Basic White Cardstock: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored
at 4 1/4″
Sweet Talk DSP 5 1/4″ x 4″
Scrap Basic Black and Basic White cardstock
for the sentiment piece

For each card put a tiny amount of adhesive on the backside of the DSP and adhere to the cardbase. Punch or die cut the hole out of both layers simultaneously.
Everyday Label Punch

Pull all of the layers apart.
Adhere with Stampin’ Seal all the way around the keyhole opening.
For the heart card I adhered the DSP tot he front of the card and then added the DSP punched out piece back into the keyhole and adhered that piece to the back piece of the card base.
Add ribbon and embellishments to finish off the cards.
On the striped card I added tghe Basic White cardstock into the keyhole opening to protect the inside back base of the card and stamped the Color and Contour flower image on the DSP layer. Remove the stamped white keyhole piece and decorate the rest of the card!
Easy simple and sweet, hope this inspires you to try the keyhole technique! Create some artwork of your own – one stamp at a time!

how do you color on black cardstock? easy…

how do you color on black cardstock? easy…

Black Cardstock can be stunning but sometimes feels a little tricky to work with, right? Because of it’s opacity it’s contrast makes projects pop but how do you get color on it? One way is to emboss on it and them color with your Stampin’ Blends! This card is made with our Strong of Heart stamp set. Every year Stampin’ Up! as an organization picks one stamp set to sell and donates a portion of the profits to a selected charity – this year the stamp set is Strong of Heart and the charities are associated with fighting Heart Disease! So exciting to work for a company that looks to make the world a better place through service and it’s charity donations!

Measurements:
Real Red Cardstock (#102482) 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
Basic White cardstock (#159276) 4″ x 5 1/4″
Basic Black Cardstock (#121045) 3 1/4″ x 3″

Stamp the large heart image in Versamark ink (#102283) and sprinkle White embossing Powder from the Basics Stampin’ Emboss Powders collection (#155554) and Heat set using the Heat Tool (#129053)
Stamp the sentiment on the lower center space of the Basic White cardstock – I used the Stitched Rectangles die and stamped on that (because I didn’t like my stamp placement it wasn’t centered enough for me! (Remember it’s not a mistake – just an opportunity for creativity! LOL)

Starting at the top of the embossed image I colored with the Dark version of the following Stampin’ Blends Alcohol ink markers: Magenta Madness, Highland Heather, Poppy Parade, Cherry Cobbler and Real Red. See the progression in the pictures below!

Adhere the top half of the Basic white piece of cardstock to the Real Red Base and then adhere Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the Basic Black piece and pop it up on the top half of the Basic White cardstock.
Adhere a few Matte Black Dots (#154284) around the sentiment.
Slip Real Red Sheer Ribbon (#153535) under the lower portion of the Basic White cardstock that you did not adhere down yet and tie to the lower portion of the card then adhere the bottom half of the Basic White cardstock to the Real Red cardstock base.

The card is finished. If you purchased this stamp set – feel good about the fact that you donated to a very worthy cause. Remember to eat healthy and do something creative everyday for your heart’s sake! Added BONUS –  it is good for the soul!
Hoping this inspires you to go out and make a little Heart ART of your own – one stamp at a time!

color lifting technique

color lifting technique

Here is another very fun way to use masks! We now have three choices of decorative mask groupings. Basic Patterns (#150697) and Plenty of Patterns (#155553) on page 128 in the Annual Catalog and the newest set of masks in the July – December mini catalog called Adorning Designs Decorative Masks on page 8 that coordinate beautifully with the new Gingerbread and Peppermint Suite.
Today’s card uses the geometric design from the Plenty of Patterns mask set to create the background technique called Color Lifting!

I started with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic White cardstock (#159276) and taped it to one of my Stamparatus plates (#146276) (just another great use for this wonderful tool!) I used some old washi tape to create an even border around the cardstock and hold it in place. I took the wide Water Painter brush (#151298) and wet the entire surface of the paper.
I then dipped the wide brush into Polished Pink ink (#155712) and watercolored the entire exposed surface of the Basic White cardstock.
Allow the cardstock to dry (Naturally or with the help of a heat tool (#129053). Adhere the decorative mask on top of the watercolored cardstock being careful to place the extra washi tape that will secure the mask outside of the painted surface of the cardstock.
Once secure, fill a Stampin Spritzer with water and spritz water lightly onto a paper towel and blot the colored cardstock between the mask. (Be careful not to get the paper towel too wet – you do not want the water to run under the mask.)
The water will lift the color off of the exposed areas and leave the color full strength in the areas under the plastic of the decorative mask creating a reverse mask pattern.
Remove the mask.
Remove the washi tape by pulling away from the cardstock.
I stamped the Delicate Dahlias flower outline stamp a couple of times on the dried background.
And added Matte Black dots (#154284) and Polished Pink Open Weave 3/8″ ribbon (#155714) to finish off the card.
This is a simple technique with stunning results! I hope this has inspired you to go and create some art of your own – one stamp at a time!
