butterfly bouquet sneak peek with alcohol, ink and vellum

This gorgeous new set is a Sneak Peek from the upcoming Annual Catalog available in May! Butterfly Bouquet will be available as one large background stamp with 6 beautifully detailed line drawings of various species of butterflies, a coordinating die set and two matching papers – Natural Touch Specialty paper and 6×6 DSP Butterfly Bijou with a wild mix of 11 Stampin’ Up! colors.  This technique uses 90% alcohol in a Stampin’ Mist Sprayer, Alcohol Blends markers and Vellum!

Measurements:

Basic White Cardstock 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ (#159229)

Vellum 2 pieces 4″ x 5 1/4″ (#101856)

Butterfly Bijou 6×6 DSP 1/2″ strip

Start with two pieces of Vellum Cardstock – and three complimentary colors of Stampin’ Blends – I used Light Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend Marker (#154887), Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blend Marker (#154894), Light Night of Navy Stampin’ Blend Marker (#154891).

Color one side of the vellum with alternating patches of blends colors.

Continue adding swatches of alternating color until you cover the entire cardstock piece.

Fill a Stampin’ Spritzer (#126185) with 90% to 99% alcohol and lightly spritz the colored side of the vellum. allow to dry and turn over to use. I used Tuxedo Black Memento ink (#132708) with the sentiments from the Pretty Perennials stamp set (#154435) from the January to June mini catalog. Looks messy and will not look even remotely like this at the end! Spritz and watch the magic unfold!

I added die cut butterflies from the upcoming release of the new annual catalog set Butterfly Bouquet adhering them with Mini Glue Dots (#103683) and finished the card off with Pastel Pearls (#154571)

Every time you try this technique you will get a completely new and unique look on the vellum!

embossed vellum belly band card

embossed vellum belly band card

Vellum is such a versatile paper, light and translucent, it adds a layer with a unique look that gives an elegant air to the card.  Did you know that you can emboss vellum and when the image is embossed onto this type of paper it creates a white image within the vellum for a gorgeous embossed look with increased depth and dimension added to your card?

I started with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of vellum cardstock (#101856) and using the Stampin’ Trimmer I sliced 1 inch off the right side of the paper. We will be using both sides of this cut vellum.

Measurements:

Crumb Cake Cardstock (#120953):  scored at 4 1/4″ and cut at 5 1/2″ cut 1 inch off the left hand side of the score line and fold at the score.

Crumb Cake cardstock strip 1″ x 11″ Fold around the card base and burnish fold lines with a bone folder (#102300) then score 1/16th of an inch on the outside of both fold lines.

Sand and Sea Designer Series (#154288): 1″ x 5 1/2″ of desired design

Vellum cardstock (#101856): 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″

Adhere the 1 inch piece of DSP to the right edge of the cardstock.

Adhering Vellum because it is transluscent, is a tricky affair! However, embossing the vellum adds places where hiding the adhesive within the design is the trick!  I used Mini Glue Dots (#103683) on many of the water bubbles in the e,bossed design to hide the adhesive.  My glue dots are on a flat sheet as I an using leftovers from my Paper Pumpkin kits but the ones in the catalog come on a roll.

Adhere the vellum onto the card base and DSP layer.

Using the 1 inch Crumb Cake cardstock strip, Fold around card and adhere the two ends together one side of the strip on top of the other. This creates a belly band which slips on and off the card as a fun card closure. Decorate the top of the strip to cover and hide the overlap line. The card sample uses the seashell images from the Sand and Sea Suite Collection (#155980). On Basic White cardstock (#159229) measuring 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ die cut with the large seashell die then stamped in Crumb Cake ink (#1147116), Misty Moonlight ink (#153118) and Calypso Coral ink (#147101). Adhered using the Stampin’ Seal + (#149669)  and Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430). I stamped the sentiment in Tuxedo Memento Black ink (#132708) on the Pearlescent Specialty Paper (#154291) and die cut with the smallest die from the Stitched Rectangular Dies (#151820).

Love you all to the beach and back ! Thank you for being great customers and friends!

Happy Stampin’
