basic 3d embossing folders

basic 3d embossing folders

March 1st marked the release of our Online exclusives program and along with the Stamp Bundle I featured on Wednesday, March 1st on my blog post, Stampin’ up! released some versatile 3D embossing folders. these are available on line as order number #161598 and is called the Basics 3D Embossing Folders pack – three folders come packed together and are all fun subtle designs. I used each of them in the same card design to highlight just the background designs achieved from these great Basics folders.

Measurements:
Basic White 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ and
4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″
Basic White embossed layer 4″ x 5 1/4″
Scrap Pool Party for scalloped circle die and banner die
vellum

Run each of the three Basic White 4″ x 5 1/4″ layers through each of the 3 different Basics 3D embossing folders.

I used a scrap piece of Pool Party cardstock and ran it through the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine with the Layering Circles scalloped die and the Brilliant Wings smaller butterfly die and used the negative of the butterfly die to highlight the alcohol vellum technique!
Because you will be adhering to an embossed uneven surface I use Tear N Tape for a stronger hold.
Tie Pool Party Sheer ribbon around the lower half of the embossed layer and tie in a knot.
Die cut the smaller long banner from the Stylish Shapes die set and stamp with the Inspired thoughts sentiment “THANK YOU SO MUCH” Pop up on mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhere to the center lower third of the card with the ribbon knot directly above the center of the sentiment piece.
Spray a large piece of vellum with Rubbing alcohol (I use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol for best results.) Add drops of various re-inkers (I used Pool Party, Balmy Blue and Highland Heather)
Use a Heat Tool to move the ink and spread the color and dry the ink. Keep adding re-inker drops of ink and sprays of alcohol until the desired color and effect is achieved!
Add a section of the vellum to the backside of the butterfly die cut and then pop this focal piece up on Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and add to the center top third of the card.

This card uses the Basics 3D embossing folder that has a starfish pattern on in.

Add Rhinestone Basics Jewels to the card and it is complete!
This card uses the Basics 3D embossing folder that has raised dots as a background.
This card uses the Basics 3D embossing folder that has raised diagonal crossing slash marks as a background.
Here are all three designs, each unique because of the different embossed backgrounds – this is a great essentials set and worth every penny.
Use one of your embossing folders as a background today and go create some art of your own – one stamp and embossing folder at a time!

hand-drawn dots cards

hand-drawn dots cards

Hand-Drawn Dots is a new background stamp from the 2023 January – April mini catalog. It is also the featured stamp set for the Stampin’ Through the Catalog challenge from last Thursday, so I love to play along with challenges and these are the cards I came up with!

The first card uses the stamparatus to stamp the background and then slightly offset the paper to make the first stamped dots appear like a shadow! I love this stamp positioning tool for projects such as this one!

Measurements:
Base: Crumb Cake 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″
scrap for the Stylish Shapes circle die
scrap for the sentiment die
Basic White Layer: 4″ x 5 1/4″
scrap for the Brilliant Wings die
Vellum: scrap for the Brilliant Wings die
background technique

Place the stamp on the acrylic hinge of the Stamparatus. Ink the stamp surface with Crumb Cake ink and stamp onto the middle of the Basic White Layer.

Clean the stamp image and re-ink with the Craft White ink pad.

Move the paper slightly so that the white dots are offset from the Crumb Cake ones – making a shadow image.

I embossed the Craft ink with White embossing powder and set it with a heat tool for added shine and texture!

Cut the solid butterfly shape out of Vellum cardstock and place on the extra acrylic hinge piece of the Stamparatus tool.
Choose three colors of Stampin’ Blends colors, I chose Mambo Melon, Flirty Flamingo and Daffodil Delight. Scribble on the vellum surface.
Using a spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol, liberally spray the vellum surface and push the ink and dry it with a heat tool.
Add more color if necessary once the vellum is dry or leave as is!
Die cut the cooresponding detailed butterfly die out of Basic White cardstock and adhere together
Adhere the Basic White embossed layer to the Crumb Cake card base.
Pop up the butterfly onto Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals tucking them onto the back where the white veins of the butterfly wings will hide the adhesive.

I stamped the sentiment in Craft White ink and heat embossed with White powder as well and die cut using the Fancy Dies.

Because the Crumb Cake circle die cut from the Stylish Shapes set is being adhered over an embossed surface I used Tear & Tape for a more secure adherence.
Adhere the circle die to the upper middle section of the Basic White embossed layer.
Place the popped up butterfly in the center fo the circle die and cut about15 inches of Sweet Sorbet metallic woven ribbon and wind loosely around your palm, place a piece of adhesive under the sentiment piece and adhere the ribbon to the backside of that die piece. Secure the ribbon by placing Stampin Dimensionals on top and add to the lower right hand side of the card front. Add Opaque Adhesive-backed Gems and the colors of the ribbon and Gems compliments the Vellum Alcohol background nicely!
This next sample starts with a base of Soft Sea Foam Cardstock and stamped the Hand-Drawn Dots in Versamark and embossed with clear embossing powder and a subtle tone on tone look. I added a die cut from the Basic Borders Dies in Pear Pizzazz using both sides of the border to lend a whimsical curve to the middle of the card! I stamped the sentiment to carry the tone on tone style throughout the card in Crumb Cake ink on the same color card stock. Added plain vellum background butterflies under the Basic white cardstock overlay of the more detailed butterfly dies and added 2022-2024 In Color Decorative dots to the sentiment focal piece for the finishing touch of interest.
I stamped the Hand-Drawn Dots background on Crumb Cake in the same ink and distressed the corners and added a bit of crumb cake ink diagonally down the center of the 4″ x 5 1/4″ layer to add an aged look. I added the same directional inking to the Fancy Dies sentiment die cut piece. I added the Vellum backed Butterfly dies to the top and bottom of the opposite diagonals on the sentiment piece and finished the card with the Iridescent Pastel Gems for a little subtle bling!
My last sample is a shaker card – I used the negative piece from the circle die cut from my first sample and adhered a Window Sheet to the back of the Crumb Cake die opening. I layered Foam Adhesive Strips around the circle opening and added some retired sequins (a great way to use up old sequins containers – for new product you could use the For Everything Fancy sequins or the Loose Flower Flourishes or the Effervescent Elements these are all great choices!)
I stamped the Hand-Drawn Dots in Mambo Melon on a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic White Cardstock and added that to a Mambo Melon Cardstock base. I filled the basin made with the Foam adhesive strips with the sequins and adhered another window sheet to close up the cavity. I adhered the shaker portion of the card onto the stamped layer and added the sentiment piece and the layered butterfly die as well as a Brushed Brass Butterfly to the ink Blended sentiment focal piece for the finishing touches. Shake and enjoy!
I hope you enjoyed the samples of our newest background stamp. Dig out some of yours and go and create some art of your own – one stamp at a time!

misted alcohol marker vellum card

misted alcohol marker vellum card

I love learning and teaching new techniques and this is a great one! I have seen the Misted Marker technique many times but recently I saw a card and tutorial from Cindy C. and I knew I wanted to replicate it to teach it to you all! This technique can be done on card stock, watercolor paper, window sheets, and vellum. Personally I love the translucency of vellum and the look this technique achieves is stunning! Different every time and delightful to make!

My main sample today is a slim line card – I love the look but rarely think about this size so today I tried it out!

Measurements:
Base: Basic White 8 1/2″ x 7″ scored at 3 1/2″
Basic Black layer: 8 1/4″ x 3 1/4″
Basic White layer: 8″ x 3″ embossed
Basic White CS for hearts 4″ x 5 1/4″
Adhesive sheets for hearts 4″ x 5 1/4″
Vellum Layering Designs for hearts 4″ x 5 1/4″
Scrap Basic Black CS for the sentiment

Depending upon how many images you want to cut or punch out from the vellum – size accordingly. Cut the 3 layers for the hearts to the same size. For examples sake I am using 4″ x 5 1/4″. Remove one side of the protective backing from the adhesive sheet and adhere it onto the Basic White CS piece, peel off the other side and adhere the Vellum on top of the adhesive sheet (right way facing upwards away from the sticky side!)
Take various Stampin’ Blends and make random scribble marks across the entire vellum adhered surface. Make sure to cover the entire area.

Spray the vellum inked surface with Isopropyl Alcohol and using the Heat Tool push any access ink around until it dries.
Lie the vellum flat if it curls and place something heavy on the vellum to stop the curling and straightening it out.
Using the Country Bouquet punch – punch out as many larger hearts as you can.
Take the Basic White layer measuring 3″ x 8″ and run through the 3D Painted Texture embossing folder twice as the paper is longer than the folder.
Fold the Card base in half at the 3 1/2″ score line and adhere the Basic Black layer to the base.
Because the next layer is filled with texture from the 3D embossing folder , I used Tear N Tape. Adhere the Painted Texture layer to the Basic Black layer.
Pick five hearts in a similar color palette or those in a color gradient and arrange them on the card in a design of your choosing.
I stamped the Something Fancy sentiment in Versamark on Basic Black CS and sprinkled white embossing powder over the stamped image. Using the Heat Tool, I melted the embossing powder and allowed it to cool, popped it up on Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhered it to the top right hand corner.
I added some rhinestones for the fancy and that completes the first card!!
I had extra hearts prepared in the same way and I could not bear to thrown them away, so I made a few more cards!

This next card starts with a Basic White card base cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″.
Sentiment stamped and die cut from Something Fancy. I adhered this sentiment piece to the center of the card and arranged the hearts around the piece. I added Sweet Sorbet ribbon for a little sparkle.

This card begins with a Crumb Cake Card stock base, a crumb Cake layer measuring 4″ x 5 1/4″ embossed with Stripes and Splatters 3D Embossing Folder and popped up with Dimensionals. Cut one inch strips of Crumb Cake Card stock to create a tone on tone background by punching the smaller hearts out. I needed eight for my design. I punched the Label Me Lovely punch from Basic White and added the Something Fancy Sentiment in Sweet Sorbet. I added the smaller hearts in a pattern above the Crumb Cake layer. Pop the sentiment onto the Stampin Dimensionals and twist the Sweet Sorbet Metallic ribbon three times around your palm and cut it off the spool. Flatten out the ribbon and attach under the sentiment piece. Pop up a smaller heart over the Misted Marker heart and adhere that down to the left of the sentiment.
This last card using the Misty Marker technique using one heart and four of the leaf images that got punched in the process. The card stock is the Shimmery White and measures 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″. I cut another layer of Shimmery White card stock to 4″ x 5 1/4″. I adhered the “leaves” to the back of the big heart. Stamp the sentiment in Orchid Oasis in the top center of the top layer and using a Blending Brush to add color to the middle of the top layer. Adhere the Heart punch to the center of the ink circle on the card front and add 2022-2024 In Color Matte Decorative Dots for the embellishment!

Such a fun technique! Try it soon and go out and create some artwork of your very own – one stamp at a time!!

so much fun playing in the rain

so much fun playing in the rain

t Well the last few days have been raining here – and when it rains it is a perfect time to stamp and get other things done around the house. There was a break in the clouds yesterday and I took a picture across the lake at the reflections on the ice – I am awed by the beauty of this place!

I also had a blast using the new Playing in the Rain Bundle (#150551) and the accessories included in the Rain or Shine Suite Collection! (#160556)

Below are the assortment of cards I made with this suite! Enjoy! And read until the end because next month’s paper pumpkin coordinates with this suite and you can order an add on of two coordinating dies for only $6 if you are a subscriber for this month’s Paper Pumpkin kit (must sign up on the paper pumpkin website or order a subscription of at least one month by Feb 10th) or better yet order the suite collection and a one month subscription and earn Sale-a-bration FREE Level Two  merchandise. See details at the end of this post!

This Rain or Shine suite collection (#160556) is fantastic – I had so much fun playing with it! The Rain or Shine 12 x 12 paper is adorable and has shiny raindrops and clouds – just too cute (#160540), and the loose daisy embellishments are flat and sweet and so easy to add a flair of whimsy to the cards (#160555).
I have ten cards to share with you and one is cuter than the next! Some with stamped images, some with fussy cut animals from the DSP, one with just the papers and a die cut word set from another suite!
This first card detailed in the step by step pictures uses two 3″ x 4″ pieces of the Rain or Shine Specialty DSP, 3/4 of a sheet of Crumb cake cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and one sheet of 4″ x 5 1/4″,one sheet of Basic White 4″ x 5 1/4″ for the inside, scraps of Basic White for the bunny image, the sentiment and the umbrella image.

I colored in the images with a Water Painter (#151298) and Blushing Bride (#147100) and (#147105) Balmy Blue ink pads. I stamped the “Rainy days are better with you” sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and die cut in the rectangle die from Deckled Rectangles (#159173) Then I shaded the sentiment die piece with a Blending Brush (#153611) and stamped raindrops in Balmy Blue ink.

I used the Raindrops embossing folder (#160554) also part of the Rain or Shine Suite and embossed the 4″x 5 14″ piece of Crumb Cake CS. I popped this layer up on Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430) and adhered it to the base card.
I added one of the DSP 3″ x 4″ pieces on a tilt to the bottom of the card.
Add the second piece of DSP to the top using an opposite tilt.

I added the Basic White layer for the inside of the card 4″ x 5 1/4″ and I stamped clouds and raindrops in Balmy Blue ink and adhered to the inside of the card.

I fussy cut the bunny image and die cut the umbrella. I adhered the bunny image to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I adhered the sentiment piece directly to the card above the bunny image.
I used mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and added the umbrella to the bunny’s hand.
I added the pink Pastel Adhesive Backed Sequins (#160387) to finish off the card!

For this card I used the new Textured 12″ x 12″ Shimmer paper cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″, three different patterns of the DSP cut to 1 1/4″ x 3″ and adhered to the center of the Textured Shimmer paper with Tear N Tape (because of the texture). Fussy cut the bunny image from the Specialty DSP and added the Pastel Sequins!

This card uses the same size 3″x 4″ DSP pieces like the first card and added the Daisy Embellishments and the Love For You die cut words (#160403) for a totally different look!

I embossed vellum with the Raindrops embossing folder and then cut the smallest square and the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes die set (#159183 – one of my all time favorite multipurpose die sets!), added a white die for the sentiment from the same die set and fussy cut the daisy and bunny images from the Rain or Shine DSP and adhered those along with the strip of Flirty flamingo striped paper! I finished off the card with some white Opaque Gems (#160412).

This card includes a Mango Melody CS base, strips of Rain or Shine DSP, fussy cut turtle from the DSP, and Opaque Gems.

Another card with Rain or Shine paper scraps and vellum circles from the Stylish Shapes die set. I added the Opaque Gems and some Glittered White Organdy ribbon for some sparkle!
Love this background paper from the Rain or Shine pack on a Flirty Flamingo CS base, and a circle die cut for the sentiment, some daisy embellishments and the fox fussy cut from the DSP!

I love the little closed umbrellas, I stamped around the sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored them in with Stampin’ Blends Alcohol markers in a rainbow pattern! This card is so simple but so cute!!

I stamped the bunny image and umbrella on 4″ x 5 1/4″ Basic white layer and colored with a water painter and ink from the ink pad cases. Added raindrops in Balmy Blue ink and the sentiment in Tuxedo Black. I mounted this onto a Pacific Point card base.

This last card uses the Textures Shimmer Paper which comes in White, Balmy Blue and Shaded Spruce and the pictures do not do it justice –  it is very COOL! A layer of the raindrops paper and the largest square in vellum die cut from the Stylish Shapes die set positioned on the diamond. The Raindrops paper is popped up on dimensionals and the vellum is attached with mini glue dots under the umbrellas. I added the sentiment die cut with a banner from Stylish Shapes. I LOVE THIS CARD! It is simple and elegant in it’s monochromatic style!

2021-2023 in color shimmer vellum embossed vellum card

2021-2023 in color shimmer vellum embossed vellum card

I love vellum translucent paper you can barely see through – for me it conjures up a feeling of romance – I don’t know why exactly but it does! I especially love dry embossing on it! On plain vellum the embossing pushes an impression into the sheer paper and create a whiter image that truely pops! We have a product which I have had for a while but haven’t played with much yet and got a chance this past weekend! The 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum has a lovely subtle shimmer to it in Sweet Sorbet, Fresh Freesia, Pale Papaya, Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen hues. I wondered how it would take to being dry embossed and today’s blog post is the card that resulted from that wondering!

Measurements:
BASE: Orchid Oasis 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
Shimmer Vellum 5 1/2″ x 4″
Silver Foil 5 1/2″ x 1/4″ x2
Scrap Basic White for the sentiment circle die

TIP:
When scoring and cutting your cardstock if you take a full sheet of cardstock and score across the entire piece at 4 1/4″ and then rotate and cut at 5 1/2″ you will save time and both pieces will be scored!

Take the Shimmer Vellum piece and insert into the snowflakes embossing folder from the Wintry 3D embossing folders pack. Run through the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss.
This is the finished embossed product – so pretty!
Cut a 1/4″ strip from the Silver Foil 12 x 12 pack and cut the strip into two 5 1/2″ segments.
Vellum because of it’s translucency is notoriously difficult to adhere without seeing the adhesive below the strips are a sneaky way to cover the adhesive strips! I attached the 1/4″ strips on the left and right sides of the Shimmer Vellum leaving a small border. Adhere Stampin’ Seal on the back of the Shimmer Vellum directly behind the strips and attach it to the cardfront.
Die cut the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes die set and stamp in Orchid Oasis ink a sentiment from the Framed and Festive stamp set, this is a limited time set and I love it! Want it? order it soon before it goes away and use the current hostess code FA3VX7JQ.
Pop the sentiment die up on Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhere to the card front.
Adhere Rhinestone basic jewels to the card front to finish off the card with a little sparkle! Try your hand at embossing vellum today and make some art of your own – one stamp at a time.
