memorable blooms naturally gilded floating element card

memorable blooms naturally gilded floating element card

Today’s card was a card I designed for last month’s library card class and haven’t posted.

This card uses the Memorable Blooms bundle and even though this stamp set has floral and foliage images and would normally lend itself to very feminine cards but this more masculine card uses the leaf sprig from the Memorable Blooms die set in neutral colors.

Measurements:
BASE: Very Vanilla CS: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
scrap for die
DSP: (2) 3/4″ x 3″ from Naturally Gilded
Specialty paper
(2) 3/4″ x 3″ from the Gold Foil Specialty
paper
Window Sheet: 3″ x 3″

Glue the 3/4″ x 3″ Naturally Gilded Specialty Paper to the top of the Window Sheet.
Glue the 3/4″ x 3″ Golf Foil Specialty Paper to the bottom of the Window Sheet.
Glue the last two Specialty Paper strips to the middle of the Window Sheet spacing evenly.

Place the Window Sheet square in the upper middle of the card and stamp the sentiment below the square in the lower 1/3 of the card in Wild Wheat ink.

Pop up the Window Sheet with Stampin’ Dimensionals strategically placed under the Specialty paper strips so that they do not show.
Adhere the square over the sentiment with the Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Place the Neutral Adhesive-Backed Sequins around the sentiment.

Adhere the die cut over the left-hand side of the popped up square.

scored at 4 1/4″
scrap for die cut
Basic Black CS: (20) 3/4″ square pieces
scrap for the word die cut
DSP: (20) 3/4″ square

Adhere the DSP squares to the Basic Black squares but offset them slightly off to the bottom and left hand side of the DSP square.
Adhere the first row of squares to the card base spacing evenly.
Adhere the remaining rows of Squares to the card front spacing evenly side to side and top to bottom.
Finish adhering the remaining matted squares to the card base, making sure that the black square is in the same position for all squares.
This gives the illusion that the DSP squares have a shadow radiating out behind them!
Such a cool optical illusion don’t you think!
Using the large banner die from the Stylish Shapes die set – stamp in Memento Tuxedo Black ink the BEST from the Friends for Life stamp set onto the die.
Adhere to the top middle of the card on an angle.

more color mondays – berry burst, highland heather and blackberry bliss

more color mondays – berry burst, highland heather and blackberry bliss

Another More Color Monday back with a Double Diamond Fun fold in hues of purple! Berry Burst, Highland Heather and Blackberry Bliss compliment the rich floral designs in the new Regal Winter DSP! Follow along for the easy instructions for this fun fold design! Also learn a fun coloring technique along the way.

Measurements:
BASE: Blackberry Bliss CS: 4 1/4″ x 11″
scored at 2 1/8″ and 5 1/2″
Berry Burst: (2) 2 3/4″ squares
Basic White: (2) 2 1/2″ squares
DSP: (2) 3″ x 4″
(1) 4″ x 5 1/4″

Take the two Basic White card squares,
stamp thank you from the Humble Home stamp set on the center of the first one.
Color the entire inside of the hollow lettering of the thank you sentiment in light Stampin’ Blends Highland Heather.
Next I wanted to create a gradient of color so I took the Dark Stampin’ Blends marker in Highland Heather and colored only the bottom half of the lettering.
Color over the inside of the lettering with the Light Marker to blend the colors. This creates an ombre look to the letters!
Have you ever wanted to use a sentiment but it was not the right size?
This is a fun and easy technique – it’s called omitting and you take a Stampin’ Write marker in the color you need – in this case I used the Highland Heather marker. Using the brush tip, I colored the first two words with the side of the brush tip marker “for the” from the Humble Home “for the sweet gift” sentiment.
I stamped those words on the upper middle of second diamond shape.
Then I brushed ink onto the “sweet gift” portion of the sentiment and stamped it below the “for the” on the diamond.
This way I could use the sentiment I wanted on the shape that I chose!
On the edge closest to the 2 1/8″ score line mark at 2 1/8″ on the 4 1/4″ side.
Cut diagonally from the middle 2 1/8″ mark to the score line on the left and then reposition and cut from the mark to the score line on the right edge of the card.
Fold the triangular piece back towards the score line of the card.
Adhere the 4″ x 5 1/4″” DSP piece to the inside right hand panel of the card.
Take one of the 3″ x 4″ pieces of DSP and adhere to the left hand inside panel of the card.
Take the other 3″ x 4″ DSP piece and adhere to the outside panel underneath the triangular cut….
Adhere the Basic White Diamonds to the Berry Burst diamonds.
Adhere the left side of the thank you diamond to the triangle on the card front
You want to place the inside diamond so that it is directly under the front diamond, so it is hidden and a surprise when opening the card!
I found the easiest way for me to do this is to adhere the entire back of the diamond and place tape side up on the back of the first diamond.
Close the back of the card over the diamonds and press on the back of the card securing the adhesive on the second diamond to the inside of the card.
The inside diamond should be in line with the front diamond when the card is closed!
I added three shiny sequins to the front sentiment on the card and two on the inside diamond to finish off the card with a coordinating bit of bling!
Try this easy fun fold with stamps and DSP you have at home. Now go and create some artwork of your very own – one stamp at a time!

creating a faux torn edge card

creating a faux torn edge card

This faux torn edge card is simple stamping at it’s best and easiest!
Try this effect to create a multi-layered look without the extra layers and hassle!

Measurements:
BASE: Peach Pie: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
Basic White (2) 4″ x 5 1/4″

I used long 3M sticky note pads – take one sheet and tear the sticky note in half.
Place each side of the torn sticky note at the top edges of the 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic White cardstock.
I added color brushing over the edges of the torn sticky note with Peach Pie ink and a blending brush, until desired color depth is reached.
Using the large flower image from the Spotlight on Nature stamp set, stamp in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and stamp the flower image over the sticky note in the center of the blended ink section – press on the edges as you are stamping over another sheet of paper.
I stamped the flower image on each side of the large center image to fill in the empty spaces on each edge.
Stamp the sentiment over the flower images from the Online Exclusive Sweetly Scripted.
Remove the sticky notes and adhere the Basic White stamped layer to the Peach Pie card base.
Adhere In Color embellishments to finish off the front of the card!
Stamp the flower image on the edge of the other 4″ x 5 1/4″ Basic White layer and adhere to the inside of the card!
This is such a fun way to add visual interest without adding cardstock layers!
Try this technique with stamps and inks you already have!
Now go and create some artwork of your very own – one stamp at a time!

the art of shading – shadow shading part two

the art of shading – shadow shading part two

Adding shadow shading under an image can accentuate and enhance an image in a very simple and powerful way.

Just burnishing color in the area that you intend to lay down a focal image can create a dramatic effect.

This card uses the Wonderful Snowflakes as the major focal image on the card front. Burnishing a slightly darker color to the cardstock around where the image will lie creates a shadow effect that makes the focal image POP off the page.

Starting with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ base piece of Coastal Cabana CS. Fold in half at 4 1/4″ and burnish a circle of Bermuda Bay ink with a blending brush to the middle of the card front.

Cutting a Basic White layer for the inside of the card to 4″ x 5 1/4″ stamp the sentiment in Tuxedo Black ink in the upper center of the layer.
Pop out the Wonderful snowflake image and using the negative space – hold or tack it down over the sentiment with removable adhesive. Did you know if you add multipurpose liquid glue to the back of the negative space and allow it to dry it becomes a removable adhesive?
Burnish the Bermuda Bay ink inside the negative space of the Wonderful Snowflake die cut.
Remove the negative space piece and lightly burnish more color around the snowflake image to bleed the color out towards the edges of the layer.
Adhere to the inside of the card.
Finish the card front by adding a Wonderful Snowflake popped up on a Stampin’ Dimensional in the center of the shadow area.

Stamp a sentiment below and add Basic Rhinestones to the card front for a little bling!

Try to add some color to your cardstock to create your own shadow and see how your stamped images or embellishments come to life. Now go and create some art of your own – one stamp at a time.
