something old, something new

something old, something new

Today I’m using a great “old” stamp set (one in the Current catalog Daisy Lane (#149325) it’s coordinating Daisy punches – Daisy (#143713) and Medium Daisy (#149517) and the retiring Classic Label punch (#141491) (so sad to see this one go – it is a perfect punch size for those thin one liners! I started off with a new 2021-2023 In Color for the card stock base – Soft Succulent and used the matching ink I created a tone on tone background.

Next I Embossed the front of the card with the Tasteful Textiles Embossing Folder (#152718) just to give it some additional, subtle depth and dimension.

In Tuxedo Black Memento Ink (#132708) I stamped the large and medium daisy images from the Daisy Lane set onto Basic White cardstock (#159276) (TIP: I pre-cut Basic white cardstock into three sizes and always have on hand half sheets of cardstock cut in the middle at 4 1/4″ and the opposite way cut at 5 1/2″ and then 1/4 sheets of cardstock as well! – makes it easier to create cards with these already pre-cut!)

Using the Crushed Curry (#149014) and Basic White and Daffodil Delight (#141709) Watercolor pencils I colored in the petals and then brushed them with our Water Painters (#151298) It is hard to see the white on the petals but it does soften the harshness of the black ink and tone down the flower!
I punched out my flowers using the Daisy punch (#143713) and the medium Daisy Punch (#149517)
I built my flowers using three flower punches and as I adhered them one on top of the other rotate the flower slightly so the petals alternate and do not sit directly on top of one another. I pulled the top layer away from the other two bottom layers and “fluffed” the flower for some dimension!
I added White Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon (#146912) before adding the flowers to the cardfront.
I added a little bit of wink of Stella (#141897) to the petals and adhered them to the card. I stamped the sentiment from the Daisy Lane stamp set in Soft Succulent and popped it up on Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (#144108) and added it onto the card!
2021 – 2022 new in colors and the rip and flip technique

2021 – 2022 new in colors and the rip and flip technique

Introducing the new 2021-2022 In Colors – every year Stampin’ Up! issues 5 new on trend colors for a two year stint in the Stampin’ Up! color family line! And this year the colors work really well together! Pale Papaya, Polished Pink, Fresh Freesia, Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen!
The coordinating In Color Line is available in Inks, Re-inkers, Cardstock, Markers, Stampin, Blends, Gorgeous ribbon and In Color Jewels that are so so pretty!
One of the new sets is a beautifully designed line art flower stamp and coordinating die set called Hand-Penned Petals, it also includes lovely matching Designer Series Paper. So I made a card in all of the new In Colors using the Rip and Flip technique and this card making technique could not get ANY easier! Cut a 12″ x 12″ DSP sheet at 4″ and then again in half at 6″. Rip across the long end of the paper and flip one half over! That’s it adhere to the card add a sentiment and voila you are done! Here are my Rip and Flip card samples!
I cannot wait to show you these In Colors in person after May 4th when the catalog goes live!
Hope this fun and easy technique inspired you to go and create some art of your own – one stamp at a time!
Happy Stampin’,

blossoming pop up mothers day card

blossoming pop up mothers day card

This fun fold card packs a Wow factor that will bloom right in front of the person that receives this beautiful card!

Start with a 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of copy paper and with a sponge brayer (retiring this month) (#141714) lightly (to minimize the lines somtimes created by a brayer – a light touch helps!) brayer color on both sides of paper!

Using your Stampin’ Trimmer cut the copy paper into 2 3/4″ square pieces.
Fold each square in half on the diagonal and then in half towards the other diagonal.

Then fold it in half and in half again!

After the folding is complete and you open the colored copy paper it should look like the picture below!
Using a Sponge Dauber burnish color in a circular motion in the center of the square.

Refold the square and starting at the folded edge cut the top to resemble a snow cone starting low on the folded side and arching up to the top of the paper and angling back down to the other edge.

Fold and cut 7 squares. Once the squares are cut open them up and cut one petal from the flower and using mono adhesive glue glue the petals on either side of the removed piece together!
Fold the flowers flat and begin to glue as shown below take the first flower the 3 petal bumps facing upward and put a glue dot on the left and right petals as shown.
Place 2 petals on top of the glue dots 3 petal bumps facing outwards with the glue dot adhering to the top and middle petals as shown below!

Then place three glue dots as shown and place one petal 3 bumps facing upwards over the glue.

Repeat the four dots of glue and the 2 petals on the side as above and the three dots of glue on the top and the one petal with the three bumps facing upward to finish the petal stack off. The final order is one petal facing upward two petals on the sides – then one facing upward 2 on the sides and one last one up top! Watch the video it is easier to show it on a video then trying to explain in pictures LOL!

Set aside to dry and finish front of card anyway you like – I added some black and white True Love DSP and colored it with Stampin’ Blending Brushes and Granny Apple Green and Calypso coral inks!
Once the glue is dry from the petals being glued together I added a piece of True Love DSP tot he inside left panel of the card and added a dot of glue to the middle petal and positioned so the open area of the petals was about 1/8″ from the card score line. Close the card and hold in place for about 30 seconds to allow the glue to set. repeat on the other side of the card with the petal grouping – place one dot of glue on the middle petal and close the card so that the florer petals adhere

Do you ever wonder what to do with all your extra cardstock or Designer Series paper strips – this is a fun technique to use up all those strips! Start with coordinating strips of DSP or cardstock in complimentary colors – in this example all the strips are 1/2″ in width but they can easily be differing widths  and a sheet of copy paper. For this sample I used the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series paper (#154568).

Adhere the strips to the sheet of copy paper and glue the strips tightly together so there is no white showing through the two strips.
Measure the final width of the strips. Using the Stampin’ Trimmer (#152392) cut off any visible copy paper. Turn the paper 90 degrees and cut into a square by cutting equal to the previous measurement. Example: these strips are all 1/2″ in width – 6 strips = 3 inches – I turned the paper 90 degrees and cut at 3 inches so I will end up with a 3 inch square.
Position the square with two of the corner points in the cutting track and cut the square in half into 2 triangles (Never cut into a corner point this is a fragile point in the paper – start in the middle of the paper and slide the cutting blade out towards the corners in both directions starting from the middle)
Take the 2 triangles and position the flat side of the triangle on a vertical mark on the Trimmer and the point in the cutting groove and cut starting from the flat side and move the blade towards the point.
You will now have four squares. Arrange them in a pleasing design – depending on how you arrange the triangles you will get different looks.
Mount on a piece of Basic White (#159276) or coordinating colored cardstock with a small border around each of the triangles and trim in paper trimmer around the perimeter with the same separation as the inside of the triangle separation.
to add a little dimension to this project I ran the square through my Stampin’ Cut and Emboss and embossed it with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder (#152718)
I added Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon (#146912) around the middle of this square and added Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430) to the back to pop this focal piece up on the card base.
I mounted this onto upper middle portion of a Pear Pizzazz (#131201) 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of card stock scored at 4 1/4″

Using the Ice Cream Cone Builder Punch (#154241) from the Sweet Ice Cream Bundle (#156244) and the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set (#154456) in Tuxedo Black Memento ink (#132708) I finished the card. I added a few of the light blue sequins from the Artistry Blooms Sequins pack (#152477)! Because this is a photopolymer set and I am stamping the sentiment on different levels of paper (both on the base cardstock and an extra piece of DSP where the cone is I used a Stampin’ Pierce Mat (#126199) under the stamping surface to give some extra cushion so the sentiment would be able to stamp on both layers. Hope this gives you some new ideas for using those strip scraps and to go out and create some art – one stamp at a time!

Happy Stampin’

jacobs coat card technique

jacobs coat card technique

Jacob’s Coat is an easy, fun and colorful technique. I started with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ Basic White piece of cardstock. I applied daubs of color in Real Red (#147084), Poppy Parade (#147050), Melon Mambo (#147051), Daffodil Delight (#147094), Mango Melody (#147093), Flirty Flamingo (#147052), Gorgeous Grape (#147099) ink with Sponge Daubers (#141714).
OK at this point it looks like a hot mess – doesn’t it! but just wait I promise the end result will be stunning! (If you have an Embossing Buddy – these are retired from stamping up but well worth the investment if you can find one – this is an antistatic little pillow filled with a chalking substance that puts a thin coat over the cardstock surface to stop the powder from sticking anywhere but on the Versamark inked areas – rub it on the cardstock surface) Next I pulled out my Stamparatus (#149276) and mounted the Butterfly Brillance stamp set (#155092) to the hinged plate and inked the stamp with a freshly inked Versamark Pad (#102283) and then stamped the butterfly images over the colored piece of cardstock.
Apply Clear embossing powder over the entire surface. Tap away the excess powder and heat set with a Heat Tool (#129053).
Rub Tuxedo Black Momento Ink direct to the paper until the entire surface is covered and then using a paper towel rub the excess black ink off the embossed portions of the card front and the color emerges like magic!
I finished this card by adding a Gorgeous Grape Sheer ribbon (#154572) wrapped around the colored cardstock layer then mounted that layer onto a Basic white cardstock layer measuring 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ and then mounted those two layers onto a Real Red cardstock base measuring 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored in the center at 4 1/4″
The card I made in the Facebook Live video I did not use the Embossing buddy and did not brush off the excess powder so it is not as defined as the first card shown above. If you do not have an embossing buddy you can try a soft bristle brush dipped in a small amount of cornstarch and brushed onto the card surface (I haven’t tried this myself because I have an embossing buddy but am told this trick works)
Here is another sample everyone is a little different depending upon the colors used below
