create your own shimmer paper cards

We used to carry Shimmery White cardstock and I LOVED IT!! It had this gorgeous sheen to it and a subtle sparkle. Well it retired and if you loved it too there is a way to make your own and the good news is … it’s even more versatile!

If you are not familiar with our Pearlized Enamel Effects there come in two versions and packs of three bottles of lacquer each:

#156310 Pearlized Enamel Effects Basics
$15.00
* 3 bottles: 1 each of 3 colors
* 1 oz. (29.5 g) each
Product colors: Black, Real Red, White Pearl

#161610 Metallic Enamel Effects Basics
$15.00
* 3 bottles: 1 each of 3 colors
* 1 oz. (29.5 g) each
Product colors: Copper, Gold, Silver

You can use this lacquer in so many ways. The small, thin tip makes it easy to outline stamped images or add detail. Draw attention to part of a stamped image. Write and draw shapes such as stars and hearts. Create dots to use on your creations. You will need to allow time for drying.

Did you know you can brush these directly onto cardstock and create a shimmer paper in these six basic colors and add drops of re-inker to them and create many more colors with shimmer!

Measurement Card #1
BASE: Basic White CS: 4 1/4″ x 11″
scored at 5 1/2″
scrap for die cut
5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ for painting and die cutting
DSP: 2″ x 4 1/4″ and 2″ x 3 1/2″

Card #2
BASE: Basic White CS: 4 1/4″ x 11″
scored at 5 1/2″
5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ for painting and die cutting
Fresh Freesia CS: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ for painting and
embossing
Pebbled Path CS: scrap for sentiment piece

I experimented with different colors and different enamel effects to increase the combinations I could achieve!

My first sample I embossed colored cardstock – Fresh Freesia – with a new Beautiful Butterflies embossing folder.

I squeezed a few drops of White Enamel Effects onto a Silicone Mat and using a wet Water Painter I painted that embossed surface with the watered down enamel effects to give it a shimmer! Allow to dry fully before using on a card!
Next I did the same thing on Basic White Paper painted with White Enamel Effects.
For experiment number 3 I used Basic White CS and painted it first with the White Enamel Effects and then painted just the butterfly images with Gold and Copper Enamel Effects.
I die cut the large and small butterfly from the painted metallic butterflies piece.
For the first card I took scraps of the Nature’s Sweetness 12″ x 12″ DSP and took two different patters and a die cut from another sneak peak product the Linked Together Dies. I first arranged them together in a pleasing pattern on a 4 1/4″ x 11″ base cardstock folded in half.
Once I liked the pattern I removed the DSP and die and started to adhere the pieces onto the base.
I adhered the 2″ x 4 1/4″ piece across the bottom of the base card leaving a small border along the bottom of the card base.
Next I adhered the gold foiled cross-hatched patterned DSP in the opposite direction.
I glued the die cut piece from the Linked Together dies set overlapping the two pieces of DSP.
I grabbed a scrap of Copper Clay to draw out the copper shimmer on the butterflies and stamped Time To celebrate in the same Copper Clay ink.
I adhered the sentiment piece overlapping all three previous pieces.
I popped up the large butterflie die from the Beautiful Butterflies bundle and adhered it over the sentiment piece.
I die cut the body of the smaller butterfly out of the white shimmer paper and adhered it onto the top of the detailed die cut butterfly. I then adhered this smaller butterfly below and overlapping the left corner of the sentiment piece.
I adhered 5 brass colored embellishments f( I realized after I adhered them that these embellishments are retired but you could easily substitute the Adhesive-Backed Metallic Gems which come in Copper, Gold and A dark silver/platinum color and are faceted for a beautiful shimmer and shine!
For Card #2 I used the Fresh Freesia cardstock that I painted as the background.

I mixed Berry Burst re-inker into the White Enamel Effects to create a Berry Burst butterfly.
I painted on the Berry Burst enamel onto a sheet of embossed paper.

I adhered the Fresh Freesia background 4″ x 5 1/4″ to the Basic White card base.

I die cut the large butterfly out and die cut the large butterfly body out of the Fresh Freesia enameled scraps. i adhered the butterfly body onto the middle of the large butterfly and popped it up on Dimensionals on the card. I stamped the sentiment in Pebbled Path ink on a scrap of Pebbled Path cardstock and adhere it over the butterfly die.
I added three of the Adhesive-backed Drusy embellishments for extra special sparkle and shine!

The possibilities are endless colored paper and white or silver, black paper and all of the enamel colors, white paper and all the colors of enamel or color the enamel with re-inkers WOW what will you come up with?

Now go out and create some fun shimmer designs of your very own – one stamp at a time!

more color mondays – pretty peacock, old olive and basic beige

more color mondays – pretty peacock, old olive and basic beige

Today’s More Color Monday is a sneak peak of one of the prettiest suites in the upcoming September – December 2024 Mini Catalog debuting on September 4th in two days time in my opinion. This suite called the Season Of Elegance features stunning gold foiled Specialty Designer Series Paper which is only one star of the show in hues of Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Mossy Meadow, Pretty Peacock, Basic Beige and Gold foil as well as two stamp and die bundles.
Today’s card is made with the Peaceful Evergreens Bundle and the gorgeous new Painted Trees 3D embossing folder.

Today’s color challenge features Pretty Peacock, Old Olive and Basic Beige for our More Color Monday card.

Measurements:
BASE: Pretty Peacock 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
scrap for tree dies and suede strip
Basic Beige layer (2) 4″ x 5 1/4″
Old Olive scraps for tree dies

Place one of the Basic Beige layers in the new Painted Trees 3D embossing folder and run through the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine.
Cut the large and small tree dies out of Old Olive and Pretty Peacock scraps.
Using the White Pearlized Enamel Effects apply the liquid onto the branch edges and allow to dry on the Old Olive trees.
I used to 1/4″ strip of Pretty Peacock like I detailed in a previous post on how to make Faux Suede paper and ran the paper between my thumb and a bone folder from one end of the strip to the other and turned it over and rubbed the other side doing this again and again until the paper begins to separate. The inside of the split paper is soft and resembles suede.
I adhered one side of this strip soft side up to the second plain Basic Beige layer and adhered a smaller Old Olive tree die on top of this strip.
Adhere the entire Basic Beige layer to the inside of the card.
I stamped the outside Wishing you and yours sentiment to the top left corner of the Basic Beige embossed layer.
Adhere to the card front and glue on the Pearlized Old Olive tree dies to the lower right hand side of the card.
I added three Adhesive-Backed Sequin Trio embellishments to the card front around the sentiment.
I decided that the card front needed a little more color so I added two Pretty Peacock tree dies to the card front to finish off the More Color Monday card!
Try this color combination and see what you can create – one stamp at a time!

By now you should have received the upcoming mini catalog and if you have not and would like one please let me know so I can get one to you!

painted poppies in red shimmer

painted poppies in red shimmer

Another sample using the Pearlized Enamel Effects Basics – this sample uses the red sample.

Base:
Real Red cardstock: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
Basic White: 4″ x 5 1/4″ die cut edge with the
Basic Borders die set
scrap for sentiment piece

Die cut the right edge off the 5 1/4″ side of the Basic White cardstock layer. (I used the edge I cut off for the card I posted on Monday and this was the left over piece!) Stamp with Memento Tuxedo Black the line of poppies from the Painted Poppies (#151599) across the bottom of the 4″ side of the 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece.
Using an acrylic block for your artist’s palette, p-lace a drop of red Pearlized Enamel Effects Basics (#156310) and apply a drop or two of water from a Waterpainter (#151298)

Using the Waterpainter, paint the flower petals with the red enamel.
Using the cap, tap the Waterpainter on the cap over the cardstock to flick paint spots onto the paper.
Stamp the sentiment onto the largest banner die from the Stylish Shapes die set (#159183) from the retiring Peaceful Moments stamp set (#151595) in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
With a blending brush (#153611) and a Real Red stamp pad (#147084) apply ink to the brush and starting off the paper in circular motions apply color to the sentiment piece of acrdstock.
Using the Pearlized Enamel Effects straight from the bottle make a heart shape on the sentiment banner die cut. The enamel is thick and adds depth and dimension when adding it direct to paper in dots or shapes!
Adhere the Basic White layer to the card base leaving a border on the right and left sides.

Pop up the sentiment on the upper center.

Add Black and White Gingham ribbon (#156485) to the left edge of the card and it is complete!

See the shimmer that the Pearlized Enamel Effects gives this card? So Pretty!
A simple card with lots of shimmer and dimension brings it up a notch!
Try your hand with this fun enameled effect and create some art of your own – one stamp and one effect at a time!

adding shimmer again

adding shimmer again

I had so much fun with the Pearlized Enamel Effects the other day I have created a few more samples to highlight great ways to get shimmer on your projects, today’s card features the retiring Celebrate Sunflowers set (#152517) and the Basic Borders die set (#155558)
The base cardstock color is also retiring Mango Melody (#146989), as well as the Mango Melody ink pad (#147093) and refill (#147162).

I love the shorter side on the front flap of the card allowing for a different and easy fold to give the card added interest with very little effort!

Measurements:
Base: Mango Melody 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″ then cut 1″ off the right side
of the card front
DSP: 1 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
Basic White: 1″ x 5 1/2″ die cut with one of the
border Edgelits from the Basic Borders die
set
extra Basic White scraps for the die
cuts and the Sunflower stamp and die

Adhere the 1 1/2″ DSP piece to the inside right edge of the card base.

Die cut the 1″ Basic White piece of cardstock with the Basic Borders edge die and adhere to the inside of the cardfront right edge.

Stamp the Sunflower in Daffodil Delight ink and using the Mango Melody ink and a Blending brush swirl in a circular pattern from the center of the flower outwards creating a darker flower center.
Stamp the sentiment on the bottom card front and inside the card Calypso Coral ink.
Die one leaf and two stems in Basic white.
Pop up the sunflower on Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhere the leaf and two stems under the popped up flower image.

Using the White Pearlized Enamel Effects, squeeze out a small dollop onto an acrylic block and add water from a medium water painter. Brush the “shimmer” onto the flower center to make the flower center pop with clear shimmer allowing the ink colors to shine through.

Add embellishments and this shimmering card is complete.

Go out and try some shimmer with the Pearlized Enamel Effects soon and create some art of your very own – one stamp at a time!
