more color mondays – night of navy, misty moonlight and calypso coral

This year Stampin’ Up! added a new line of cardstock called Two-toned cardstock.

This cardstock is printed color, because the color is printed on the surface of the paper it leaves the core of the paper white! This opens up a world of possibilities for tearing and sanding!

Today’s More Color Monday color challenge card uses this new cardstock with embossing and sanding and features a rich color combination of Night of Navy, Misty Moonlight and Calypso Coral.

Measurements:
BASE: Night of Navy CS: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
Misty Moonlight CS: (2) 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ and a scrap
strip for the sentiment piece
Calypso Coral Two Toned cardstock:
3″ x 5 1/4″

I started with a different sentiment for this card but liked it so much that I decided to make this a birthday card for my best friend and soul mate, his birthday is today so if you see Kevin wish him a great one!

Take the two-toned cardstock and emboss with the Sunflower 3D embossing folder.
Take a sanding block or a nail file and gently rub over the embossed surface rubbing away a layer of cardstock to reveal the white core in elevated areas of the embossed design.

Emboss the 2 Misty Moonlight strips with the Mini Corrugated 3D embossing folder so that the corrugated lines are perpendicular to the long side of the strip. This will make the strips appear more like a ruffled effect when added to the card front.

Adhere the Misty Moonlight embossed strips to the top and bottom edges of the Sunflower embossed Two-toned cardstock.

Distress the edges of the Misty Moonlight Corrugated embossed edges.

Adhere the embossed images to the center of the card front.

Stamp the sentiment onto the strip scrap and fussy cut a banner edge to the right hand side
and adhere on top of the sunflower embossed area.

I added Navy Charming Shimmer Faceted Dots for a finished coordinated sparkle!

This new paper delivers a punch with the white core! It is now available in all the Stampin’ Up! Core and In Color Collections! Try some soon and see what all the excitement is about!

Now go and create some fun artwork of your very own – one stamp at a time!

triadic color theory charming day fun fold card

triadic color theory charming day fun fold card

All this month we explored color theory in my posts and in my classes – this is a triadic color combination taking inspiration from our new Online Exclusive suite Floral Charm and our awesome Color Coach!

This easy Book Bind fun fold uses three colors that are positioned in a triangular pattern on the Color Wheel – Night of Navy, Timid Tiger and Mossy Meadow.

Measurements:
BASE: Night of Navy CS: 4 1/4″ x 11″
scored at 5 1/2 and 6 3/4″
scraps for leaf dies
Basic White CS: (2) 4″ squares (1) 3″ x 4″
Floral Charm DSP: 1″ x 4″

Place glue in between the two score lines and adhere the panels together to make a book bind fun fold.
Adhere the 1″ x 4″ DSP strip to the outside left-hand panel.
Stamp the “Hey” sentiment from the Charming Day stamp set in Night of Navy ink on the upper left-hand corner of one of the 4″ square layers add an ellipsis (those three dots after a word that is used to indicate a pause) with the Night of Navy Stampin’ Write marker.
Place this Basic White 4″ square in the Distressed Tile 3D embossing folder and emboss that layer.
Adhere to the right-hand panel of the card front.
I stamped the branch and the inside sentiment from the Charming Day stamp set in Night of Navy ink on the other 4″ square layer and adhere to the inside of the card.
Stamp the floral image from the stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento ink on the 3″ x 4″ Basic White layer.

Using the Blender Pen, color the flower with Timid Tiger ink and the leaves with the Mossy Meadow ink. Die cut the flower, and pop it up on Stampin’ Dimensionals in the opposite corner as the “Hey” sentiment.

Cut the longer leaf die cut in half and tuck all three foliage pieces under the popped up floral image.

Adhere the Navy Opal Rounds Assortment embellishments for a perfectly coordinated finishing touch! I love triadic color combinations the colors are very balanced and pleasing.
Search the color coach page in our current catalog if you do not have one it is a worthwhile investment! Choose a triadic color combination and create some artwork of your very own – one stamp, one color at a time!

creating a fun night time background

creating a fun night time background

One of my favorite stamping tools is the Blending Brush made of super soft fibers like a makeup brush but so so soft! Picking up ink colors and burnishing a card stock layer with the ink.
Creating a night time background is easy and fun.

Measurements:
BASE: Night of Navy CS: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
Basic White CS: 4″ x 5 1/4″
scraps for die cuts

Brush the Basic White layer with Blueberry Bushel ink.

Brush the same paper with another layer of ink – Coastal Cabana.
Place a few drops of Craft White ink in the tray of the Craft White ink pad and add a few drops of water from a Water Painter and mix until combined.
Tap the edge of the Water Painter on the edge of a Bone Folder over the cardstock layer and create splatters on the layer.
Die cut Trees from the Peaceful Trees die set and color the large and medium trees with the remaining ink on the Blending Brushes.
Adhere the trees to the right side of the Basic White colored layer.
Adhere the colored layer onto the Night of navy cardstock.
Stamp “A VERY merry” stamp from Decorative Trees stamp set in Coastal Cabana ink onto a square die cut from the Stylish Shapes die set.
Stamp the word Christmas from Peaceful Season in Night of Navy ink and die cut.
Brush the edges of the square die cut with Blueberry Bushel.
Adhere the square die cut diagonally on the left side of the card. Adhere the Christmas die cut under the Coastal Cabana sentiment.
Add five Iridescent Adhesive-Backed Discs to the card front.
Try this background technique and go create some artwork of your very own – one stamp at a time.

more color monday – night of navy, old olive, and basic beige

more color monday – night of navy, old olive, and basic beige

When I saw the frame die from the Winterly Tree Tops I knew it would be one of my favorites! When I saw the negative space from the frame die I got the feeling of looking up into the night sky. So I decided on this card for this week’s More Color Monday challenge.
Today’s More Color Monday is all about Night of Navy, Old Olive and Basic Beige!

Measurements:
BASE: Basic Beige CS: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
Old Olive CS: 3 3/4″ x 5 1/4″
Basic White CS: 4″ x 5 1/4″ and 3/4″ x 4 1/4″

Take the negative space from the Winterly tree Tops frame die. Using a Blending Brush with Night of Navy ink.
Use a water painter and add a few drops of White Craft ink into the Craft White ink pad cover. Add a few drops of water and stir the ink and water with the Water Painter brush.
Using a bone folder tap the Water painter over the Night of Navy inked negative die.
Brush the edges of the Old Olive cardstock layer with Old Olive ink.
Adhere the Night of Navy layer onto the Old Olive cardstock.
Adhere the Old Olive cardstock onto the Basic Beige cardstock base.
Stamp the “thinking of you” sentiment onto a 3/4″ strip with Night of Navy ink and die cut with the banner die from the Greetings of the Seasons dies.
Brush the edges with a Blending Brush and Night of Navy ink.
Pop up the banner onto the card base. Hang over the edge with the hole end of the banner die.
Cut the edge off the banner.
Adhere the Basic Rhinestones Gems around the sentiment.
I love the look of this card as if it is a beautiful evening and the stars are out and one is looking up through an opening in a copse of trees.

Now go and create some art work of your very own – one stamp at a time.

3) Joyful Images Mix and Match Ephemera Pack. #164110. $9.50
4) Joyful Sayings Mix and Match Ephemera Pack #164109. $9.50

My first color challenge sample is a tag which comes from the Tags for the Season Ephemera pack and combines a sentiment from the Joyful Sayings pack and a pinecone image from the Joyful images pack. I added a little Red and white Baker’s twine and easy peasy!
My second sample is also a tag from the Tags for the Season Ephemera pack and I just added a saying from the joyful Sayings pack and some of the same Baker’s Twine – even simpler!
The next sample is a card made with the Gold Dipped Cards and Envelopes Pack which takes your cards to a whole new level!
I positioned the Gold Dipped card in the horizontal alignment and added a large sentiment from the Joyful Sayings, and a sprig of holly and greens along with a Garden Green strip and an image of gift boxes in hues of Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green and Night of Navy and Gold to tie it all together!
These packs are loaded with sayings and images so using multiple images to build the scene is easy and fun.
I loved this Night of Navy scripted saying “Wishing you a Christmas FULL OF Peace & Wonder” so it became the focal point on my Night of Navy Gold Dipped card and Envelope, after adding a row of evergreens and a blue bow and a Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler ornament on the side!
I added a reindeer image and a pretty single gold-foiled tree along with a pinecone and pine sprig adorned “Christmas Wishes” Gold-folied sentiment to a Garden Green card!
I added a poinsetta image as well as a holly and stocking full of goodies to a Cherry Cobbler card in the portrait position. I also popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals the Merry Christmas banner in the center!
On a Garden Green Portrait card, I added the drum image, a green striped candy cane and Green “Wishing you a wonderful Christmas Season” sentiment popped up in the center.
I love the snow globe effect of the house in snow image with the gold foiled circle enclosing the die cut – I added a lovely blue ribbon and a pinecone along with a blue banner of pool party to compliment the darer blue with the sentiment wonder and a gold striped banner below!
The gold die cut sentiments are striking on the card themselves but adding die cut images of holly, ribbon and a pine wreath set off the words and make an elegant and easy card!
My next card on a Garden Green Gold dipped background uses the Happy Christmas sentiment strip, a bow and three individual ornaments. i popped up the ornaments and drew a black line with a Stampin’ Write marker to the pine boughs adhered above!
My last sample places the Color dipped Gold card to the top of the portrait position and added a blue “Thinking of you this Christmas” sentiment popped up in the center of the card with a star, snowflake and skates as the complimenting images to finish off these lovely and super easy Christmas cards!
Check out these super fun and easy to use Christmas images for your fast and elegant cards with Christmas we are less than 60 days from Christmas now and these are a great way to make lots of great cards!
