embossed vellum belly band card

embossed vellum belly band card

Vellum is such a versatile paper, light and translucent, it adds a layer with a unique look that gives an elegant air to the card.  Did you know that you can emboss vellum and when the image is embossed onto this type of paper it creates a white image within the vellum for a gorgeous embossed look with increased depth and dimension added to your card?

I started with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of vellum cardstock (#101856) and using the Stampin’ Trimmer I sliced 1 inch off the right side of the paper. We will be using both sides of this cut vellum.

Measurements:

Crumb Cake Cardstock (#120953):  scored at 4 1/4″ and cut at 5 1/2″ cut 1 inch off the left hand side of the score line and fold at the score.

Crumb Cake cardstock strip 1″ x 11″ Fold around the card base and burnish fold lines with a bone folder (#102300) then score 1/16th of an inch on the outside of both fold lines.

Sand and Sea Designer Series (#154288): 1″ x 5 1/2″ of desired design

Vellum cardstock (#101856): 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″

Adhere the 1 inch piece of DSP to the right edge of the cardstock.

Adhering Vellum because it is transluscent, is a tricky affair! However, embossing the vellum adds places where hiding the adhesive within the design is the trick!  I used Mini Glue Dots (#103683) on many of the water bubbles in the e,bossed design to hide the adhesive.  My glue dots are on a flat sheet as I an using leftovers from my Paper Pumpkin kits but the ones in the catalog come on a roll.

Adhere the vellum onto the card base and DSP layer.

Using the 1 inch Crumb Cake cardstock strip, Fold around card and adhere the two ends together one side of the strip on top of the other. This creates a belly band which slips on and off the card as a fun card closure. Decorate the top of the strip to cover and hide the overlap line. The card sample uses the seashell images from the Sand and Sea Suite Collection (#155980). On Basic White cardstock (#159229) measuring 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ die cut with the large seashell die then stamped in Crumb Cake ink (#1147116), Misty Moonlight ink (#153118) and Calypso Coral ink (#147101). Adhered using the Stampin’ Seal + (#149669)  and Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430). I stamped the sentiment in Tuxedo Memento Black ink (#132708) on the Pearlescent Specialty Paper (#154291) and die cut with the smallest die from the Stitched Rectangular Dies (#151820).

Love you all to the beach and back ! Thank you for being great customers and friends!

Happy Stampin’

faker shaker card – an easy option shaker!

faker shaker card – an easy option shaker!

A Faker Shaker card is an easy way to make a shaker card – and the results are beautiful.  Start with a 4″ x 5 /14 ” piece of Designer Series in this sample I used a sheet from the Sand and Sea DSP (#154288), a clear envelope (#120619)and a Crumb Cake cardstock base card (#120953).

Insert the Designer Series Paper into the clear envelope so that the tape part of the envelope is facing the back of the DSP.  Using Scotch tape, fold the side of the envelope over so there is no excess and the clear envelope hugs both sides of the DSP. (see image below)

Pour sequins into the envelope and seal on the backside. (I also take the corner and scotch tape it diagonally towards the center of the piece of DSP so it does not peek out of the side of the card.) I used some retired sequins (great way to use up sequins!) but the current catalog choices would love lovely here – Whale of a Time Sequins (#152461) has seashell sequin and ties in beautifully with the Sand and Sea Suite theme!

Attach the faker shaker card piece to the base.

Embellish the front with desired sentiments, die cuts or other items.  For this sample I die cut the large die cut from the Seaside Shells Dies (#156095), anything you adhere needs to be adhered with a strong tape, due to the fact that you are adhering onto the slick surface of the envelope. I used the Stampin’ Seal + (#149699) to adhere the die cut to the envelope – running the tape onto the paper not the envelope and securing the die cut to the top side of the envelope shaker.

I die cut the seashells in our new Pearlescent Specialty Paper (#154291) then embossed it with the coordinating Seashells 3D embossing folder (#154309). The results are stunning – the shimmer does not translate as well in photos as in real life!

I added a sentiment on the Pearlescent Specialty Paper in Tuxedo Momento Black Ink (#132708) and a mat of Soft Suede Cardstock (#115318) both die cut with various sizes of the Stitched Rectangular Dies (#151820)

Finally I added an extra shell die cut colored with the light and dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blends alcohol ink markers (#154884) and added a couple Opal Rounds (#154289) for a last bit of sparkle!

angled blending technique

angled blending technique

This card is all about the color!

I love color and one of the many things I love about Stampin’ Up! Is the coordination of color! Inks and Cardstock match perfectly and the color families coordinate so well together.

This technique is called Angled Blending and it is PERFECT for our new Blending Brushes! There is a list of supplies at the end of this post with links to my on-line store if you decide you HAVE to make this card or desire any of the products I used to make it! I love the way this turned out. Special thanks to Yana Smakula for her awesome youtube video that inspired me. I started with a 4 x 5 ¼ inch sheet of Basic White cardstock (#159256) and cut two scrap pieces of window Sheets (#142314) long enough to cover the width of the cardstock piece. I used old washi tape to secure the first section of the angle and the bottom of the cardstock so the cardstock did not move when I was applying the ink!

Measurements

  • Basic White Cardstock
    • 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” scored parallel to the short side at 4-1/4”
    • 4″ x 5-1/4″
  • Basic Black Cardstock
    • 4-1/8” x 5-1/4

Then I applied Gorgeous Grape ink (#147099) to the first section until the intensity of the color was the desired darkness! Next I removed the window sheet and wiped both sides of the inked edge with a wet paper towel and placed it over the gorgeous grape section leaving a small white border.

Then place a second window sheet at an angle below the color section and secure with washi tape. Apply the second color with the blending brushes until desired color intensity.

Repeat with new colors until the cardstock is completed filled with angled colors.

Add your sentiment and image(s) in Tuxedo Black Momento ink (#132708). The image and sentiment are from the january to June mini catalog stamp set Pretty Perennials (#154435).

Add any embellishments. I used the Opal Rounds (#154289) on this card – I just love the shimmer that they have!

I love the way this turned out!

shaving cream technique

shaving cream technique

This card is a little messy but oh so worth it!

I love techniques and one of the many things I love about being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator is getting to use and teach all the fun techniques I pick up along the way!

This technique is called the Shaving Cream Technique and it makes dynamic and ever changing backgrounds! Not one of your cards will end up having the same design – they will all be unique and gorgeous! There is a list of supplies at the end of this post with links to my on-line store if you decide you HAVE to make this card or desire any of the products I used to make it! You will need some non- Stampin’ Up! supplies and yes there are things our catalog does not carry! I used a disposable plastic ware container that would accommodate a quarter size sheet of cardstock, I found this works best and is the easiest to clean up or just toss at the end of this project! I used a cheap dollar store can of Barbasol Shaving Cream and wooden skewers. I used my shower squeegee it is helpful and allows you to reuse the shaving cream! I started with a 4 x 5 ¼ inch sheet of Basic White cardstock (#159256), three colors of coordinating re-inkers, and I used the Butterfly Beauty Dies (#151819) from the 2020-2021 Annual catalog!

Measurements

  • Basic White Cardstock
    • 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” scored parallel to the short side at 4-1/4”
    • 4″ x 5-1/4″
  • Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather
    • 4 1/4″ x 5-1/2″
  • Basic Black Cardstock,
    • 4-1/8” x 5-1/4

Step 1 Gather Supplies: Shaving Cream, plastic container large enough to fit the 4 x 5 1/4 inch piece of Basic White cardstock, and a shower squeegee.
Place a thick layer of shaving cream into the glass
baking dish or an old plastic-ware container (plan to
use this container for crafting only now – not food!)

Randomly put drops of ink on the top of the shaving cream layer.
I used Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather and Pear Pizzazz  re-inkers. Make sure to space them so that the droplets don’t run into each other at first to lessen muddying the colors.

Using a clean wooden skewer gently push the shaving cream and allow the ink to move through the shaving cream until you
get a desired pattern!

Place the cut Basic White cardstock face down in the shaving cream and press all areas of the paper firmly into the shaving cream!

Gently peel the cardstock out of the shaving cream and turn shaving cream side up on a scrap piece of grid paper.

Using your shower squeegee remove the ink from the paper –

it’s like magic!

wow!

I die cut a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 sheet of Gorgeous Grape cardstock and using the negative space of the die I laid the negative over the shaving cream paper top form the card front!

This is the negative (pictured above) created by the die cutting I love how the open spaces show the
beauty of this technique paper.

These are the die cuts in Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape Cardstock.  All the Stampin’ Up! supplies are listed below! Let me know how you liked this tutorial and technique.  Enjoy!

Now go create art one stamp at a time!
