card sketch #121

card sketch #121

Card Sketches sometimes feel like cheating to my Catholic Girl mentality LOL – because they make card making SOOOOOO much easier!

When I look or design a template – suddenly I see all the possibilities! This is such a fun and easy design – the top layer is “cut in half” you can do that as simply as stamping on only half the layer – which is what I did for this card but you could also cut cardstock and do a color block technique with one color on top and another on the bottom. You could have one of the sections be embossed or use DSP – see the possibilities are endless!!!

Measurements:
BASE: Basic White CS: 4 1/4″ x 11″
scored at 5 1/2″, scrap for punch
Strawberry Slush CS: 4″ x 5 1/4″

Using the Extraordinary Flora stamp set and a Hybrid Black ink pad I stamped the lower half of the Strawberry Slush CS.
I lined a ribbon at the top of the stamped image and wrapeed it around the back side of the stamped layer and adhered it with two pieces of Scotch tape.
Turn the layer over and adjust height of ribbon if necessary.
Stamp the sentiment at the top left hand side of the layer.
Adhere a piece of Extraordinary Flora washi tape to a 4″ x 5 1/4″ Basic White layer slowly pressing down flat without wrinkles.
Run through the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine with the BASE plate #1, Thin Die Adaptor plate #2 and sandwich the die and washi tape paper in between two Cutting Plates #3.
Take a scrap piece of Basic White cardstock and punch out a rectangle from the NEW Rounded Rectangle Punch #167880.
Stamp the sentiment and lines from the Extraordinary Flora stamp set and hybrid black ink pad onto the punched out piece.

Pick out one of the die cut flowers for an accent on the sentiment piece.

Place Stampin’ Dimensionals on the backside of the sentiment punch and the flower, remove the backing and adhere over the ribbon on the Strawberry Slush layer.
Adhere the Strawberry Slush layer to the Basic White card base.
Place some embellishments on the card – these are flat pearls which are discontinued but you could use any of our pearl embellishments to enhance your version!

Here is a similar version using a different color flower in a slightly different place – such an easy card I could make so many of them in a flash!

more color mondays – lost lagoon, summer splash and coastal cabana

Today’s More Color Monday is all about cardstock colors no need for fancy Designer Series Paper, our colors are awesome and steal the show all by themselves! Lost Lagoon, Summer Splash and Coastal Cabana are a beautiful study in blues reminding me of Coastal waters and swaying palm trees!

Measurements:
BASE: Basic White 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
scraps for wave die cuts
Lost Lagoon scraps for palms/shell die cuts
Summer Splash scraps for palms/shell die cuts
Coastal Cabana scraps for palms/shell die cuts
Pecan Pie scraps for palm trunk/grass die cuts

Score the Basic White cardstock base at 4 1/4″ and fold in half.
Die cut the Basic White scrap strips with the waves dies x 2.
Adhere the waves to the center of the card front.
Die cut both palm fronds and one shell in each of the “blues” – Lost Lagoon, Summer Splash and Coastal Cabana.
Die cut three palm trunks and 3 grass dies from Pecan Pie cardstock scraps – one for each palm tree.
Adhere the Palm fronds for each color together and add the trunk and grass. Adhere to the card over the waves dies and pop up the shell at the grassy base with a mini Stampin’ Dimensional.
Repeat the assembly of the palm trees with the other two colors and adhere to the card front.
Stamp the sentiment from Beach Day in Coastal Cabana ink at the top of the card base.
I added the Adhesive-Backed Iridescent Discs in the blue hues for the final step to add just the right touch of sparkle!
This is an easy card with a fun summer vibe. Now it’s your turn – go and create some artwork of your very own – one stamp at a time!

thoughtful journey suite front flap double card fun fold

thoughtful journey suite front flap double card fun fold

I am constantly searching for new card and fun fold ideas to teach and show you! When I came across this one it did not have a name – I am sure someone else probably has a name or two for this design but I could not find one so for my record keeping I named it LOL This fun fold is like two cards in one so I named it the Front Flap Double card fun fold! It’s a mouthful but I did another front flap card this past Friday and I wanted you all to be able to identify them by name.
This card uses the absolutely gorgeous Thoughtful Designs Specialty paper highlighted with shimmer and shine and silver foil it is stunning in person.

Measurements:
BASE: Smoky Slate 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
Back card: Petunia pop 5 1/4″ x 8″
scored at 4″
Front Flap: Petunia Pop 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″
Hinge piece: Petunia Pop 1″ x 5″
scored at 1 1/2″
Thoughtful Designs Specialty DSP 3 3/4″ x 5″
scrap for front decoration 1″ x 3″
Basic White (2) 3″ x 4 1/4″ for both sides of front
flap and scraps for leaf dies
(1) 3 3/4″ x 5″ for inside of back card

Take the hinge piece and adhere the long side to the right-hand center edge of the 1/4 sheet of Smoky Slate BASE.
Score the 5 1/4″ x 8″ Petunia Pop cardstock in half on the long side at 4″. With the opening on the right adhere the back of the card to the center of the Smoky Slate base.
Adhere the Thoughtful Designs Specialty paper to the front side of the “back card” you just adhered to the Smoky Slate.
Bend the hinge piece over the DSP and place the 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″ Petunia Pop layer on top, center ot in the middle of the back card and mentally not where the layer hits the hinge. you only want to add adhesive to the left side of the hinge making sure to not pass where the layer will be.
Adhere the left-hand part of the hinge piece and adhere the Petunia Pop layer to the hinge.
Adhere one of the Basic White CS layers to the inside of the front flap Petunia Pop layer.
Stamp on the other Basic White layer the small flower stems image across the bottom of that layer in Smoky Slate ink.
Using the Light Petunia Pop Stampin’ Blends marker color in the petals of the flowers.
Color in the leaves in Smoky Slate using both the Light and Dark Blends markers.
Shade the flowers with the Dark Petunia pop Blends marker and then go over it once more with the Light marker to blend.
Adhere the stamped Basic White layer to the outside of the Front Flap.
Stamp in Smoky Slate ink a sentiment over the flower images.
Add a 1″ strip of Thoughtful Designs Specialty paper over the sentiment on the Basic White layer.
I added a Basic White layer to the inside of the Back Card and stamped in Smoky Slate the leaves image from the Thoughtful Wishes stamp set. I also stamped Missing You sentiment on that layer.
I added a small strip of Petunia Pop CS to add color and continuity to this layer.
I added 2024-2026 In Color Shimmer Gems (I had to order more because I have used all of the Petunia Pop gems LOL) to the card’s Front Flap to add a little shimmer!
I had some extra die cuts from last week’s class so I added those for some texture and dimension!

This is a fun card with lots of places to write and decorate! Try it soon! Now go and find some time to create some art of your very own – one stamp at a time!
