more color mondays – azure afternoon, coastal cabana and gorgeous grape

Sometimes with a special birthday you just need to go the extra mile and create a really special card – today son #2 turns 30 (first of all how can I have two children over 30 – CRAZY!!)

I still am designing cards from the color coach this is an analogous color combination – meaning these three colors are adjacent to one another on the color wheel and work well together.

I am so in love with this card – I saw a similar card from a demonstrator in Australia so I copied the design with different colors and modified a few other things but a special thank you to Julianne R for the inspiration!

Measurements:
BASE 1: Azure Afternoon 5 1/2″ x 11” (14cm x 28cm) scored at 2-¾” & 5-½” (7cm & 14cm) along long edge
BASE 2: Azure Afternoon 2” x 11” (5.1cm x 28cm) scored at 2-¾” & 5-½” (7cm & 14cm) along long edge
Bracket: 1-¾” x 3-3/4 “ (4.4cm x 9.5cm) scored at ½” (1.3cm) in from both ends
DSP Layer: 5-1/8” (13cm) square
DSP Layers: 2-3/8” x 5-1/8” (6cm x 13cm) (cut 2)
Azure Afternoon Base 2 bottom layers:
1-⅝ x 5-⅛” (4.1cm x 13cm) AND 1-⅝ x 2-3/8”
(4.1cm x 6cm) (cut 2)
Basic White CS:
Base 2 Layers: 1-3/4” x 2-1/2” (4.4cm x 6.4cm) (cut 2)
Base 2 Layer: 1-¾” x 5-¼” (4.4cm x 13.3cm)
DSP Matte layers:
2-1/2” x 5-¼” (6.4cm x 13.3cm) (cut 2)
5-1/4” (13.3cm) square
scraps for stamping and die cutting 3 boats

This is a bunch of cutting but it is a WOW Card for sure!

Score the 5 1/2″ x 11″ BASE 1 at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″.

Fold into a Z fold.

Adhere the 5 1/8″ DSP square layer onto the 5 1/4″ Basic White square layer and then adhere these to the third panel which will be the back inside panel.

Cut another DSP sheet to 5 1/8″ long and then cut two consecutive 2 3/8″ cuts so the images match together when adhered.

Adhere the DSP pieces to the 2 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ layers of Basic white CS. Adhere these pieces to the first and second panel in order so that the images flow into one another.

Take BASE 2 and fold it in half – run it through the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine with the wave edgelit from the Sunrise Sailing die set. The edgelit will cut through both layers at once.
Cut the Basic White layers and the Azure Afternoon layers with the different edgelits.

I used the same edgelit on all Azure Afternoon pieces as the BASE 2 and the different edgelit for the Basic White CS pieces.

Take the three Azure Afternoon layers and emboss them in the bottom part of the Sunrise Sailing hybrid embossing folder.
Position the long side of BASE 2 on the left.

Adhere the Basic White pieces onto BASE 2 leaving an even top border showing.

Adhere the embossed Azure Afternoon pieces over the Basic White layers leaving an even top border showing.
Fold the BASE 2 z fold and lay the long side of the BASE 2 onto the first panel of BASE 1.

Adhere only the portion of BASE 2 that touches the first panel.

Adhere the back of the third panel of BASE 2 and close the card making sure that the card is laying flat and adhere the BASE 2 Z fold to the BASE 1 Z fold.

Place Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue onto both small scored edges of the bracket.

Place in between the small box created by the joining of BASE 1 and BASE 2.

Place it towards the top of the BASE 2 edge just below the edge so you cannot see it but when the boat is attached it is high enough to be seen.

Stamp three boats from the Sunrise Sailing stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.

Stamp each boat with the boat fill in stamp and sail stripes in the analogous colors for this color challenge: Azure Afternoon, Coastal Cabana and Gorgeous Grape inks.

Die cut the boats out.

Run the boats through the embossing folder to give them a little embossed definition.
I used the Take Your Pick Tool attachment cutting knife to cut out the center piece between the two sails.
Take the first boat and adhere Stampin’ Dimensionals to the left-hand side of the boat and stick onto the first panel edge at the water-wave line.
Adhere the second boat onto the bracket so that the boat sticks up and looks like it is floating on the waves.
Adhere the last boat onto the last DSP panel at the water-wave line.
I added the Holographic Resin Dots from the Celebratory Sips Suite of Online Exclusive products for some fun clear shimmery embellishments like reflections on the water!

I stamped “You’re Destined for Great Things” on the first panel in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and Happy Birthday from a retired set for the inside panel.

This advanced stamping project is so worth the extra time for a special WOW card for a special someone!

Happy Birthday to my baby boy #2 you deserve all the world can give – hope you like the card because I loved making it for you!

Try making a special project for someone special to you today! Now go create something spectacular – one stamp at a time!

more color mondays – real red, timid tiger and old olive sketch #103

Time really does pass by so quickly! Today I am on the road celebrating my baby’s 21st birthday and settling him into the New England area for a summer internship – it seems like just yesterday I was in labor with my last child!! Today’s More Color Monday’s color challenge features the new 6″ x 6″ Regals Designer Series Paper in Real Red and Old Olive and Timid Tiger.

This is a simple sketch combining colors that are on opposite ends of the color wheel close to a triadic combo using the Celebratory Sips Suite of products from the last Online Exclusives release.

Measurements:
Old Olive CS: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
DSP: 3/4″ x 5 1/2″and scraps for fussy cutting
Timid Tiger CS: 3 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
Basic White CS: 4″ x 5 1/4″ and scrap for
sentiment

The Celebratory Sips Suite comes with a very cool mini embossing folder combo pack
GLASS & GARDENS EMBOSSING FOLDER
– 2 embossing folders
– 3-3/8″ x 6-1/4″ (8.6 x 15.9 cm)
– Use with a Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine (sold separately)
– Compatible with the Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine (sold separately)

I used the Glass embossing folder image on the Timid Tiger cardstock.

I adhered the Regals 6″ x 6″ designer series paper in Real Red striped pattern on the edges of the card front leaving about 1/8″ from the edges.
I adhered the Timid Tiger embossed layer to the middle on top of the Designer Series paper.
I stamped the 4″ x 5 1/4″ Basic White layer in Timid Tiger ink the Let’s Celebrate image in triplicate down the center of the layer and added a orange slice in the bottom corner.
Adhere this layer to the inside of the card.
I fussy cut a couple of cocktail images from the Celebratory Sips DSP and added the taller one directly to the Timid Tiger embossed layer and popped up the smaller cocktail glass to one side of the taller glass.
Cut about 6 inches off the Timid Tiger ribbon and fold in half and adhere to the left hand side of the fussy cut cocktail glasses images.
Stamp the sentiment Cheers in Timid Tiger ink and cut an angle at the end of the word, pop the sentiment piece up on Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhere over the ribbon.

Then I added 2025-2027 In Color Flat Pearls to finish off the coordinated look!

Try this card layout with your stash and see what you can create – one stamp at a time!
Enjoy your time as it goes fast – hug your little ones they grow up and tower over you quickly!!

card template #3 sketched butterflies card

card template #3 sketched butterflies card

Last week I made another card using a card template and showed that they can be an easy way to design a card.
On page 22 of the Stampin’ Up! 2024-2025 Annual Catalog we have 22 card templates for making cards! I decided to show you how just changing a few things on the card or the DSP can change the look even though all the cards started out with the same template.
I used card template #3 I have counted left to right on the bottom of page 22 and the third layout from the right is the one I will be using!

Measurements:
BASE: Coastal Cabana CS 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
scrap for butterfly die cuts
DSP: (3) 1 1/8″ x 4 3/4″
Basic White 3 7/8″ x 5″ and scrap for the die cut

card #2
BASE: Pool Party 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
DSP (3) 1″ x 4 1/8″
Basic White 3 1/2″ x 5″ scrap for sentiment

Card #3
BASE: Pool Party 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
scrap for sentiment matte
DSP (3) 1″ x 4 1/8″
Basic White 3 1/2″ x 5″ scrap for sentiment

Card #4
BASE: Misty Moonlight 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″ edge torn off front
DSP (3) 1″ x 5″
Basic White 3 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ scrap for sentiment
and strip for inside edge of card

card #5
BASE: Boho Blue 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 2 1/8″ and 4 1/4″ z-fold
scrap for sentiment matte
DSP (3) 1″ x 5″ (1) 3/4″ x 5 1/2″
Basic White 3 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ scrap for sentiment
Petal Pink scrap for leaf die cut

Cut the DSP to 3 strips of 1 1/8″ x 4 3/4″ and die cut the trio of butterflies out of Coastal Cabana card stock from the Sketched Butterflies die set.
Adhere the DSP strips to the Basic White layer.
Adhere the layer to the card front.
Brush Coastal Cabana ink using a Blending Brush onto a small Deckle Circle die cut and stamp the birthday sentiment from the Sketched Butterflies set onto the die. Individually ink up one of the smaller butterflies from the small butterfly cluster and stamp onto the circle die.
Pop up in the center of the sun burst.
Adhere the three Silver Drusy Adhesive-Backed embellishments onto the card to finish it off.
For card #2 take some Thoughtful Journey DSP and cut 3 strips of 1″ x 4 5/8″ and mount onto the Basic White layer.
Mount the DSP/White layer onto the card front.
Die cut a small circle from the Spotlight on Nature die set and stamp “You’re A True blessing” from the Unbounded Love stamp set in Coastal Cabana ink. I used some retired embellishments to finish the card.
For card #3 I cut (3) 1″ x 5″ strips and adhered them onto the Basic White cardstock layer.
I tied a Summer Splash ribbon around that layer and mounted it onto the card front.
I cut Pool Party and Basic White concentric banners from the Nested Essentials die set and stamped the “Hope” from the Unbounded Love stamp set in Coastal Cabana ink. I added a Petal Pink die cut leaf from the Unbounded Love die set and added some retired embellishments to finish off the card!
For the inside of card #3 I added a 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ strip of Thoughtful Journey DSP and stamped the inside sentiment from the Unbounded Love stamp set.
Card #4
Is the same as the last card but I pushed the edge of the Basic White layer to 1/8″ from the left fold and then tore the right hand edge of the card. I added a 1/4″ Basic White strip (which I always have a ton of to add some visual interest to the card.
I stamped a sentiment from the Always With Me stamp set and popped up the Spotlight on Nature die on the lower right hand side of the card front to finish it off!
For my last card sample card #5 I made a Z-fold scoring the Boho Blue cardstock at 2 1/8″ and 4 1/4″.
I adhered 3 strips of 1″ x 5″ Thoughtful Journey DSP to the Basic White layer and adhered it to the first panel careful to only adhere the left hand section of the card to the z-fold.
I added the banners from the Nested Essentials and the Petal Pink leaf die from the unbounded Love set.
I adhered a DSP strip 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ to the inside right edge and stamped the inside greeting. I added retired embellishments to finish this last card!

Using card templates can be a great way to add some different card making skills, add inspiration if you are stuck for some ideas or give you a way to create with friends and see all of the different ways to interpret the card layout given!
Try one today and see what card interpretations you come up with this card layout or one of the other ones on page 22 of the Annual Catalog!
Now go and create a card of your very own – one stamp at a time!
