new packaging tips and tricks

new packaging tips and tricks

Have you heard that Stampin’ Up! will be transitioning to 100% Photopolymer stamp sets! Due to the raw material shortages with Red Rubber we will be discontinuing that line of products and as we transition to this new material we will also be using new packaging – the November Online Exclusives will be the start of the gradual transition to this new packaging and photopolymer line.

The new packaging will be across the board for all new stamp and die sets and will be 5 5/8″ by 9″ envelopes.

Today’s blog post is all about the upcoming changes and some tips and tricks for storage and organization!

Below is the image of the Upcoming November Online Exclusive punch bundle Banner Sayings.

I love the new packaging for it’s sleek and elegant design but was a little disappointed that the stamp sets did not come with the pre-printed images that had previously been on the inside of the cases! I loved the pre-printed stamp images because it was a double check that I was not missing any of the stamps when I put them all back in the package.

So I have a tip to make the new packaging even better!

The stamp sets still come sandwiched in between two sheets of plastic – one thicker and one thinner.

I added three strips of Tear-N-Tape to the thicker sheet of the plastic sandwich.

I adhered the stamp set to the back inside of the paper sheath that comes in the envelope.
I removed the thinner plastic sheet from on top of the stamps and applied Tuxedo Black Memento ink to the stamps surfaces.
I closed the front side of the paper sheath over the stamps and either rub your hands on the top paper sheath over where the stamps are located or run a brayer over the area where the stamps are.
Now you have an entire image of all of the stamps in this set on the inside of the front cover paper sheath that comes in the envelope.
Clean off the stamps and place the thinner sheet of plastic back over the stamps.
Add three strips of Tear-n-Tape to the top of the thinner plastic sheet over the stamps.

Remove the release paper from the top plastic sheet and close the paper sheath over the stamps.

Now you will have the thinner plastic sheet attached over the printed images for all the stamps in the set. This thinner plastic does not hold onto the stamps as tightly as the bottom thicker layer!
Once you are done using your stamps you can place them over the image on the thinner plastic and once you close the paper sheath the stamp will be transferred to the thicker plastic sheet for storage!

Never lose a stamp!
Try this technique with all your new packaging and you will be able to stay organized!

Adhere the first and fifth panel together to form a rectangular box.

Lay the flattened box in the middle of the DSP layer just to the right of the score line. Flatten the box with the edge toward the inside 4 1/4″ fold of the card. Adhere the inside panel just a sliver away from the score line and close the card front and rub so the box adheres to the second panel.
Open the card and place Stampin’ Seal + or Tear-n-Tape on the inside panel of the box next to the DSP. Close the card and rub on the back of the card to adhere the box to the DSP layer of the card.
Die cut the Strawbarry Slush layer with the second largest Textured Notes dies.

Stamp “where you’re planted” sentiment in Strawberry Slush ink onto a Basic White 1/2″ strip and cut the words apart. Adhere in the center of the die cut layer.

Stamp the smaller flowers in Strawberry Slush ink – this is a two step stamping image – so stamp the base image on your grid paper and then stamp the flower “stamped off” image on your cardstock. Stamp the detailed smaller flower over the base in full strength and die cut them out. I stamped three flowers at full strength for some variation.
Arrange them around the Timid Tiger die cut and pop some up on Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Add a Darling Duckling bloom with Timid Tiger edge tucked under the Timid Tiger die cut.
Add two of the medium blooms on the inside Strawberry Slush layer.

more color mondays – crushed curry, peach pie and calypso coral exploring analogous colors

more color mondays – crushed curry, peach pie and calypso coral exploring analogous colors

I have written a little about color theory before. Most of us know only the basics about color unless you majored in ART! I majored in Pharmacy pretty far away from an art major! Although I have loved the art of stamping for almost 25 years now i am still no expert in color theory. I do know the basics and I think I have an innate eye for what colors look pleasing together but I love tools that can help me with what colors WORK together and our newer tool the Color Wheel does just that!
On pages 132-133 of the current 2024-2025 catalog we have devoted two pages to color theory and our new color wheel.

Monochromatic –
choose colors with the same tints or shades
of the same color
Complementary – opposites attract – pair colors
that are opposite each other on the color
wheel to create bold, contrasting color
combinations
Analogous – choose three colors that are side
by side on the color wheel. These
neighboring colors work together to create
harmony and balance.
Triadic – choose three colors evenly spaced
around the color wheel. Our wheel is
created with a triadic line pointing in the
inside window that points out these special
combinations.

Today’s card is an analogous example of color theory and Crushed Curry, Peach Pie and Calypso Coral all belong in the Orange to Yellow-Orange spectrum.

This is a single layer card as simple as simple stamping gets but the mask creates an incredibly layered look that belies it’s simplicity!

Measurements:
BASE: Basic White CS: 4 1/4″ x 11″

I die cut the Linked Together rectangular trellis and actually used the negative space as a mask to prevent the ink from going outside this rectangle. Save the trellis die for another card!
Place the #1 mask over the rectangular negative die and mark the notch on your grid paper so that the following masks line up.
Using a blending brush and a circular motion pick up Crushed Curry ink from the ink pad and brush through the mask onto the card front below the mask.
Remove mask #1 but keep the rectangular paper mask in place.
Place mask #2 in the notch created with mask#1 and brush with a new blending brush and Peach Pie ink.
Remove the plastic #2 mask keeping the paper rectangular mask in place.
Place mask #5 in the notch and using a new blending brush and Calypso Coral ink I brushed the lower half in a diagonal line with this ink.
Remove both the plastic and rectangular masks.
Stamp the sentiment of choice from the Linked Together stamp set in Calypso Coral ink and tie the Peach Pie ribbon around the center of the card front.
Add the embellishments and your simply stamped card is complete! I used the white sequins from the Adhesive-Backed Sequins Trio and colored them with the Dark Calypso Coral Stampin’ Blends marker to make them coordinate perfectly!

Do you have masks at home? This is a fabulous bundle with incredible possibilities and I cannot wait to do some more creating! Try a mask card today or if you don’t have one order this one on January 7th!

Now go and create some artwork of your very own – one stamp at a time!
