Sometimes inspiration comes and you sit down and design something different and special. I will pre-warn you this is not an ever day card but sometimes it is fun to design something that takes a little time and effort and this is my own design! I am calling it a “1-2-4 pop up insert fun fold” – it was inspired by a very cool pamphlet I saw and I adapted it to card making!

Measurements:

Basic White 12 x 12 cardstock
cut to 5 1/2″ x 11 1/2″ and scored at 5 3/4″
an insert cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
Designer Series Paper coordinating images
2 of the same design at 1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″
2 of the same design at 3 3/4″ x 5 1/4″
2 of the same design at 2 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
this piece will be cut into two pieces
2 of the same design at 1 1/4″ x 5 1/4″
additional scraps as inserts for the folded pop up insert section

I first made the insert template.
I scored 1/2″ from each 5 1/2″ short side.
I then could the remaining 7 1/2″ and divided them up into 6 sections lightly drawing lines every 1 1/4″ on the short side of the template.
I then made four cuts perpendicular to those pencil lines – going across the page. Starting 1 1/2″ from the top of the template place the cutting blade at the first 1 1/4″ pencil line and cut to the last pencil line (this will leave the 1/2″ sections and the first and last 1 1/4″ sections uncut. Begin at the same pencil line as the first cut but start 1″ below the first cut line and cut a line through the second and third sections only.
measure 1″ below that cut line and slice a line across the fourth and fifth sections. Measure one more inch below the last cut line and cut through sections 2-3-4-5. Follow the dotted lines on the template and score through all dotted lines on the template. and fold as show in the picture.
The Poppy Parade (red) dotted lines fold as a valley bending the fold backwards and the Bermuda Bay (blue) dotted lines fold as mountains folding forward. Decorate the small squares and rectangles with scraps of DSP .
Score the Basic White cardstock 1 3/4″ from each outside edge and mark 3/8″ from the top of the card down each side and cut a diagonal line from the score line to the mark on the outside of the card. Cut the 2″ x 5 1/4″ paper at 3/8″ on the inside and adhere 3/8″ piece to the 1/2 inch fold on the insert. Take the 1 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ piece and adhere it to the next section in on the insert and then adhere the 1/2 scored section butt up against the fold at the 1 3/4″ score line.
Adhere paper to the outside of the card and design a belly band to keep the card closed!
To close the card fold in the two outside flaps and close the two sides at the center score line and slip the belly band over the closed card!
Here is the completed card fully expanded!

A little time consuming to create the template and make the cuts and folds – but the final project more than makes up for the time involved!
