two step stencil technique

two step stencil technique

I have used Masks in several posts previously but this technique uses a two step method.

BASE: Berry Burst CS 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
Basic White CS: 4″ x 5 1/4″ and a scrap for the
sentiment piece
Lemon Lime Twist scrap 1″ x 4 3/16″
Basic Black CS: 4″ square

Die cut the large flower die from the Artistic Dies in black CS.
Place the black CS negative piece on the Basic White CS piece.
Using a Blending Brush and Lemon Lime Twist, ink the edges where the negative space is for the leaves.
Ink the negative space in the center where the flowers would be with Highland Heather and Berry Burst ink and Blending Brushes.
Remove the Black CS negative die and place the mask from the Four Square Decorative Masks set and add another layer of ink with the same colors. Go over the Lemon Lime Twist over the mask where the areas underneath are Lemon Lime Twist.
Ink a blending brush with Highland Heather and Berry Burst over the areas where the same colors are.
Remove the mask.
Cut the Basic White CS and adhere to the card base.
Adhere the black die cut over the two step technique area.
Emboss the Lemon Lime strip and adhere to the right side of the card.
Stamp the sentiment from Wonderful Thoughts in Berry Burst. Die cut the sentiment with the large banner from the Stylish Shapes.
Cut the banner in half and pop up the sentiment on Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Add 2023-2025 In Color Dots to the card front.
Love the way this two step stencil technique turned out! Hope you try this technique soon – and create your own art one stamp at a time!

dandy laser-cut paper

dandy laser-cut paper

Stampin’ Up! catalogs are always so graphically beautiful and packed with visual stimuli that sometimes it is a bit overwhelming! There are great things in the catalog that I think go unseen or missed! I believe the Dandy Laser-Cut paper is one of those beautiful items that gets lost in all the visual elegance of our catalogs! This gorgeous laser cut paper is stunning and there is so much you can do with it! Tonight at 7pm I will be demonstrating how I made these card in a Facebook Live – so if you are available join me and if you are reading this blog post after the Facebook Live airs I will be attaching it to the end of this post later on tonight after the Live is over so you can view it at your leisure!
For the cards I made I used colored cardstock that corresponds to the color combinations in the Dandy garden Designer Series Paper (#154297) – Bumble Bee (#153077), Misty Moonlight (#153081) and Mossy Meadow (#133676) cardstock.  Stampin’ Up! does the color coordination work for us – so I use those pre-designed color combinations to me advantage – why reinvent the wheel as they say! Below is one of the 2 sheets that come in the pack!

The Dandy Laser Cut Paper (#1154300) is so dainty and detailed. It comes with 2 sheets each containing different card front images and accents. I made a total of 13 cards with the designs and accents. The pieces can be colored with our Blending Brushes and here is my tip for the day! – Place a quarter sheet of Basic White or other neutral cardstock directly under your image and color onto the paper – not only will it keep your work surface clean but will create a lovely masked image – two cards for the price of one!

Above is one of the geometric designed card fronts that I colored in Misty Moonlight ink (#153118) with our Blending Brushes (#153611) and to the left is the Basic White quarter sheet of cardstock (#159276) I used to color the stencil on creating a masked image that I cut now cut down to 4″ x 5 1/4″ to use on a Misty Moonlight card base! The following two photos are the cards I created with the card front and the mask.

Here is another example of that same technique!
On this second card not only did I use the card front image as a stencil but I also used the flower image negatives to create an image overlay! Easy and a great layered effect.

There are separate pieces that come in the laser cut paper pack including dragonflies, flowers and leaves. Here are some of the cards I made using the separate pieces.

The card below uses the Pale Papaya Open Weave Ribbon (#155672) dyed with Blending Brushes (#153611) and Bumble Bee Ink (#153116)! Remember with lighter color ribbon you can achieve almost any coordinating color!!

Here is another card created using another card front image and some of the Dandy Garden Designer Series Paper (#154297) dragonflies that directly coordinate with the Dragonflies Punch (#154240).  I also used the Double Oval punch (#154242) in Misty Moonlight for the sentiment piece.

Lastly I created some more Water splattered paper like my previous paper pumpkin post – So Cool. This technique is a little addictive and thought it would make a fun background for the laser cut images!

Join me Monday, May 10th at 7pm for the Facebook Live where I will demonstrate the Masking and Water Splatter techniques used to make some of the cards above or if you are reading this post after that time the replay is linked below!

Did you know that if you loved any of the products show you can just click on the pictures above and they will take you directly to my Shop With Me page!
Technology is pretty cool!
I love to show my customers how to use all of the items in the catalog – so many pretty items and so many pretty ways to use them! Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions I am here to help you stamp at your best and achieve the results you desire! Hopefully this inspired you to go and create a little art yourself ONE STAMP AT A TIME!

fun with stencils

fun with stencils

Stencils are truely such a fun and inexpensive way to dress up your cards – no expensive fancy equipment needed just a piece of plastic with decorative holes in it and some ink! Last night during my Facebook Live I showed these cards and demonstrated ways to use any stencil!
The featured image above uses Soft Suede ink (#burnished into a Soft Suede Cardstock base for a gorgeous tone on tone background!
Pick up ink by tapping the brush directly onto the ink pad and working in circular motion apply ink through the stencil (I used the Basic Pattern Decorative Masks – #150697 – while holding the stencil edge firmly or tacking it down with washi tape.
Lift one corner of the mask/stencil to check on the ink transfer to the cardstock base the more ink you apply the deeper the tone on tone effect will be!
Die cut butterflies from the Butterfly Wings die cuts (#155523) or buy the bundle and save 10% (#155821)
I added a sentiment from the Friends are Like Seashells stamp set and Metallic Pearls with my Take Your Pick Tool (#144107). The sentiment is stamped on a 3/4″ strip of Basic White Cardstock (#159276) and matted with a 1″ strip of Crumb Cake cardstock (#120953).
Here is another sample with a sentiment from the Butterfly gala stamp set (#148580) I used a 1/2″ strip of Basic White Cardstock (#159276) for the sentiment and matted this with Crumb Cake Cardstock (#120953).
Using a similar technique to apply the ink – I used multiple ink colors to make a rainbow effect – blending the colors where they come together – Poppy Parade ink (#147050), Mango Melody ink (#147093), Coastal cabana ink (#147097), and Bermuda Bay ink (#147096). I used Gorgeous Grape ink (#147099) in the video sample as well.
For an Ombre technique – use the blending brushes and start at one end of the 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic White cardstock with a freshly inked Blending Brush (#153611) and do not reink but traveling down the piece of cardstock as the ink is used the area inked with naturally get lighter and lighter creating that Ombre color pattern! I mounted this background onto Mambo Melon cardstock (#115320) added a Basic Black (#121045) die cut butterfly and Matte Black Dots (#154284).
For the Stencil embossing technique – use a juicy (freshly inked) Versamark ink pad (#102283) and after securing the mask/stencil with tape – press the versamark ink firmly through the stencil. Remove the stencil and add Clear embossing powder (#109130) to the wet versamark, this clear tacky ink will stay wet for longer than our regular ink pads to facilitate the embossing process! Heat with a Heat Tool (129053) until the grainy powder turns slick and shiny. I added some shading on the corners with Blending Brushes and Old Olive ink (#147090), a crumb cake cardstock die from the Stitched So Sweetly die set (151690) and the Butterfly Wings Dies, a sentiment from Peaceful moments stamp set (#151595) in Momento Tuxedo Black ink, and Matte Black Dots!
To Reverse Stencil embossing – While the stencil is still wet with Versamark ink I flipped it ink side down onto a Just Jade cardstock (#153079) base and rubbed on the back of the stencil to transfer the remainder of the ink onto the cardstock. Then I embossed it and added the same embellishments!
The Emboss Resist technique uses the white of the cardstock piece by placing the stencil down and pushing the Versamark pad through the stencil as before, emboss with clear powder and the Heat tool and then laying down color with the blending brushes! Using a paper towel burnish the cardstock and the ink will rub away from the embossing powder leaving the design in white shining through the background colors! I used the Banner Triple punch on the sentiment piece (#138292).
I washed off the color from my blending brushes and while wet I applied color lightly to the card through the stencil – this wet application of color lends itself to a different pattern of color. I used the blending brushes directly to the cardstock to add shading to the corners
Colored Shimmer Paint technique – While the color was still on the stencil – I placed a clean Basic White 4″ x5 1/4″ piece of cardstock under the stencil and with a bunched up paper towel I wet a spot on the paper towel with a mixture of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint (#147044) and 70-90% alcohol. Rubbing the stencil to push the color mixing with the Shimmer paint into the cardstock – the result is a more subtle color pattern that adds a glorious shimmer and glow to your background piece!
