using negative die cuts

using negative die cuts

Sometimes using negative die spaces is easy you can visualize a card from the negative cut work. I had two 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ sheets of paper in coordinating colors laying on my desk last week and I happen to shift one over the other and thought this would make a pretty unique card. Happy Accident!

I save my negative die cuts a lot and try to see if I can use them in anyway before tossing them into the circular file!

Measurements:
BASE: Basic White 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″
Layers: 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ die cut negatives
Scrap white for the sentiment

I die cut four different dies out of the Pool Party cardstock below and it made a nice pattern so I hung onto the piece to see if I could use it.

I was die cutting for a swap last week and this piece was so pretty I decided to use it for a card – I thought it might be a fun mask for a background paper or for a card front. I ended up throwing it on my desk and the two pieces worked well together.
Adhere the two negative pieces together and then adhere to the card base.

I stamped the sentiment piece from the Stylish Shapes dies with Coastal Cabana ink from the Something Fancy stamp set. I popped up the sentiment onto Stampin’ Dimesionals and added to the lower Stylish Shapes negative die space.

I added the Ombre Decorative Dots to the card as a finishing touch and made a lovely card out of recycling the left over pieces.

Try to use the scraps and bits off you stamping area and see what lovely things you can make – go and create some art of your own one stamp at a time!

shimmer paint in any color

shimmer paint in any color

I miss our Champagne Shimmer Paint! So I started thinking about ways to create shimmer and realized that we already have it! The Pearlized Enamel Effects Basics pack (#156310) currently comes in Black Pearl, White Pearl and Red Pearl colors. The white can be tinted with all of our Re-inkers to create perfect matches for your projects!
I combined one of my favorite 3D embossing folders, Seashells 3D embossing folder (#154309) which is sadly on the current Last Chance list, as well as the Friends are like Seashells stamp set (#154368).

Base:
Granny Apple Green CS: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″ scrap for sentiment oval
Basic White: 4″ x 5 1/4″ embossed with
Seashells 3D embossing folder

Using an acrylic block squeeze out some of the Pearlized Enamel Effect in white and using a water painter squueze the barrell and add a few drops of water to the enamel.
Brush the thinned mixture onto all of the embossed seashell images.
I added a drop of Pool Party ink to the edge of the white enamel mixture and painted all of the background water.
I then added a drop of Granny Apple Green re-inker to the remainder.
I painted the remaining seaweed images in green.
I washed off the acrylic block and added another dollop of White enamel to the block and added a few drops of water from the water painter and after the cardstock was dry I added a top coat of clear shimmer to the entire paper to add shimmer and soften the painting.
I popped up the layer on Stampin’ Dimensionals and added a sentiment from the Friends are like Seashells stamp set.
The possibilities are endless, shimmer in every Stampin’ Up! color! Try some soon and add colored or clear shimmer to your next project, for all my customers out there that have a love-hate relationship with glitter this is the PERFECT solution. Shimmer without the mess of glitter! Go out and create some art of your very own – one stamp at a time!

basic 3d embossing folders

basic 3d embossing folders

March 1st marked the release of our Online exclusives program and along with the Stamp Bundle I featured on Wednesday, March 1st on my blog post, Stampin’ up! released some versatile 3D embossing folders. these are available on line as order number #161598 and is called the Basics 3D Embossing Folders pack – three folders come packed together and are all fun subtle designs. I used each of them in the same card design to highlight just the background designs achieved from these great Basics folders.

Measurements:
Basic White 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ and
4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″
Basic White embossed layer 4″ x 5 1/4″
Scrap Pool Party for scalloped circle die and banner die
vellum

Run each of the three Basic White 4″ x 5 1/4″ layers through each of the 3 different Basics 3D embossing folders.

I used a scrap piece of Pool Party cardstock and ran it through the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine with the Layering Circles scalloped die and the Brilliant Wings smaller butterfly die and used the negative of the butterfly die to highlight the alcohol vellum technique!
Because you will be adhering to an embossed uneven surface I use Tear N Tape for a stronger hold.
Tie Pool Party Sheer ribbon around the lower half of the embossed layer and tie in a knot.
Die cut the smaller long banner from the Stylish Shapes die set and stamp with the Inspired thoughts sentiment “THANK YOU SO MUCH” Pop up on mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhere to the center lower third of the card with the ribbon knot directly above the center of the sentiment piece.
Spray a large piece of vellum with Rubbing alcohol (I use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol for best results.) Add drops of various re-inkers (I used Pool Party, Balmy Blue and Highland Heather)
Use a Heat Tool to move the ink and spread the color and dry the ink. Keep adding re-inker drops of ink and sprays of alcohol until the desired color and effect is achieved!
Add a section of the vellum to the backside of the butterfly die cut and then pop this focal piece up on Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and add to the center top third of the card.

This card uses the Basics 3D embossing folder that has a starfish pattern on in.

Add Rhinestone Basics Jewels to the card and it is complete!
This card uses the Basics 3D embossing folder that has raised dots as a background.
This card uses the Basics 3D embossing folder that has raised diagonal crossing slash marks as a background.
Here are all three designs, each unique because of the different embossed backgrounds – this is a great essentials set and worth every penny.
Use one of your embossing folders as a background today and go create some art of your own – one stamp and embossing folder at a time!

brilliant wings pop through closure card

brilliant wings pop through closure card

This fun closure card uses a butterfly die as the front closure – I did a card like this years ago with a great punch that we had but we discontinued it and we really have not had a great substitute until now! In the Something Fancy Die set we have a small thin die usually used to cut out smaller sentiment pieces but the shape and size is PERFECT for this past card idea – so I am redoing it with the Brilliant wings die set and the Fancy Flora DSP.

I had some left over supplies from the card I did for a recent library class and I used the cut card pieces for this sample.

Base: Fresh Freesia 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
Basic White layer: 4″ x 5 1/4″
Fancy Flora DSP” 3″ x 6″ scored at 5 3/8″
scrap Pool Party for the Brilliant Wings die cut
scrap Basic white for a Stylish Shapes circle die

Die cut one of the smaller butterflies from Brilliant Wings die set and die cut the Something Fancy die in the upper middle of the 3″ x 6″ piece of Fancy Flora DSP closer to the Scored end.

Adhere tape to the inside of the scored portion of the DSP and adhere to the upper middle back of the Basic White layer.
Then add adhesive to the back of the Basic White layer and adhere to the Fresh Freesia base.
Add adhesive to the butterfly body only and adhere through the die cut with the card front flap closed and rub to adhere the butterfly to the inside Basic white layer. With the wings open the card will remain closed but as you lift the card flap up the wings will raise and release the card flap to open the card!

Stamp the circle die with a sentiment – here I am using the two sentiments from the Color and Contour stamp set “here for you now” on the circle die and adhere that to the bottom right side of the flap.

Then stamp the second sentiment “and in Better Days ahead” in the lower middle of the Basic White layer so that it is hidden under the flap when the card is closed. Adhere the dsp cut from the card flap above the inside sentiment for some contrast and color.

Add some 2022-2024 In Color Matte Decorative dots bling to the card front and this quick and easy butterfly closure card is complete!

Now it is your turn – can you make a fun closure card? Go and create some art of your own – one stamp at a time!

Happy Stampin,
Natalie
