handmade card box to fit standard A2 cards

handmade card box to fit standard A2 cards

Do you ever give your cards away as a gift? It makes the perfect teachers or hostess gift! But how to package them – right? Today’s post is the simple and perfect gift wrapping solution – we are going to make a box to fit our cards!

Measurements:

Box Base: Colored cardstock 7 1/2″ x 8 3/4″
scored at 1 1/2″ on all four sides
Box Top: Coordinating DSP 6 3/4″ x 7 5/8″
scored at 1″ on all four sides.

Boxes are easy to make the hardest part is figuring out the measurements, these will fit standard American sized A2 cards and clear envelopes. I made the top snug because Ilike them to fit that way if you like the box top slightly less snug increase the dimensions of the box top by 1/8″ to both measurements.

Cut an 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of cardstock (I used Misty Moonlight for the box base in this example) to 7 1/2″ x 8 3/4″ and score on all sides at 1 1/2″.
Cut the score line on the long side of the paper to the crossing score line – see photo above for the example. Do this on all sides
Place Tear’n’Tape on all the created tabs.
Crease all score lines with your bone folder, remove paper backing for the Tear’n’Tape and place the adhesive inside the box.
Cut your desired piece of DSP ( I used Artfully Composed) to 6 3/4″ x 7 5/8″ and scored on all sides at 1″
Follow the same instructions as for the box base – cut on the long side the tabs to the second score line, fold all sscore lines and adhere the tabs to the inside of the box using Tear’n’Tape.
Fill the box! In this example I filled it with pretty handmade cards – what a great gift!!
Decorate the box with ribbon and tags and give the gift away! The recipient will be so impressed that you made the box and the cards!

It is so fun to be able to share our creations and doubly fun to make the box that the gift comes in. Share your creations and create a box – one stamp at a time!

sunshine and rainbows DSP paper piercing cards

sunshine and rainbows DSP paper piercing cards

Have you ever heard of paper piercing – I first saw the Sale-a-bration catalog and when I saw the Sunshine and Rainbows 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper and the Driving By Sale-a-bration stamp set and had to try the paper piercing technique for the VW van in this set!

Stamp the VW van on both Basic White Cardstock and one of the DSP designs.

Cut out the colored section of the van in the DSP.
Glue the DSP to the fussy cut stamped image on Basic White cardstock. Now the VW van looks like it is right out of the 60s! Doesn’t it?
I used Smoky Slate Light for the “chrome” of the fenders, Basic Black dark for the tires, and added light Pool Party Stampin’ Blends for the glass on the windows.
Add the stamped focal point to a card and you have a fun throwback image without having to hand color the automobile!!
I added another 2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Sunshine and Rainbows DSP and popped the VW van up on Stampin’ Dimensional. Added Pale Papaya Open Weave ribbon that I dyed with Mango Melody ink to match the base card stock. Using a strip of Basic White I stamped and adhered the sentiment to the bottom of the card.
I added the Artistry Blooms Sequins to finish off this sample.
Here is another sample paper piercing with the Simply Marbleous 6 X 6 DSP from the Sale-a-bration mini catalog. This van is colored using the same Stampin’ Blends as the previous card and mounted on dimensionals on a different design of 3″ x 5 1/2″ DSP from the same pack of Sunshine and Rainbows 6 x 6 Sale-a-bration DSP. Same sentiment, same Artistry Blooms sequins in a different color and differnt ribbon, and just changing a few things the cards look very different!
One more card sample using the VW van and the paper piercing technique same design but on a different card design. I used multiple layers of cardstock to add interest instead of DSP and Iridescent rhinestones for the sparkle.
pop up z-fold card

pop up z-fold card

This card is a super fun pop up z-fold card and although it has a lot of pieces cut them all at once and then putting it together is a breeze!

Measurements:

Misty Moonlight Cardstock base: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 2 1/8″ and 4 1/4″
Marbleous DSP paper: 2 pieces 5 1/4” x 1 7/8”
2 pieces 2”x 2” cut in half diagonally
White cardstock: 2 pieces 1 5/8” x 1 5/8”
       2 pieces 2 5/8” x 2 5/8”, cut 1 in half diagonally
Balmy Blue cardstock: 2 pieces 1 3/4”x 1 3/4”
2 pieces 2 3/4″ x 2 3/4”, score 1 on the diagonal and cut off 1” of tip parallel to score

This card starts with a traditional Z fold – an 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of cardstock scored at 2 1/8″ and 4 1/4″. Fold the card in hlaf and then crease the score at the 2 1/8″ mark in the opposite direction. On the inside back of the base card stock adhere the half diagonal DSP pieces in the four corners.
Adhere the 2 5/8″ square complimentary colored card stock on a diagonal in between the four corner pieces.
Adhere the 5 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ pieces to the 2 inside panels to the left of the four corner section.
Stamp three images in this example I used the new Sale-a-bration stamp set that you can earn for FREE with a qualifying $50 subtotal order during January and February 2022. Remeber that the square are going on a diagonal so be sure to stamp on the diagonal. Stamp with the Memento ink if you will be coloring them with Stampin’ Blends as I show below!
I colored the Awesomely Otters images using Stampin’ Blends: Pool Party, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Polished Pink, Soft Sea Foam and Petal Pink combos.

Adhere each image to the corresponding colored card stock square/diagonal.

Score one of the large Blue squares on the diagonal and cut the point off the left edge of the diagonal. Adhere the triangular piece with the flat left hand side all the way to the score line.

Place Tear’n’Tape on the left hand side of the large diagonal and set it in place to have the desired amount of cardstock underneath showing. Fold the card over to adhere this piece down to the card.
This is what it will look like attached.
Adhere the diagonal pieces above and below this last focal point with the top and bottom points equally spaced to the top and bottom of the card and in line with the DSP.
This sweet little Otter fun fold has fun and easy details. I hope you are inspired to create some art of your own – one stamp at a time! Remember during Sale-a-bration, if you spend $50 subtotal you can earn either the Marbleous 6×6 DSP or the Awesome Otters for FREE or both of them with a $100 order. sunshine and rainbows free standing pop up fun fold card

sunshine and rainbows free standing pop up fun fold card

Sometimes making a special card for a special someone is just something you HAVE to do!! Making one that is easy to do is even more fun!

This card fits into a standard size envelope when folded and can be easily mailed but turns into a free standing pop up fun fold when your special someone pulls it out of the envelope.

Special thanks to my sister demonstrator, Rachel T. for the inspiration.

Measurements:
Pool Party Cardstock base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
scored on the 5 1/2″ side at 1/2″, 2 1/8″,
2 5/8″ and 3 1/8″ from each side and scored
once in the middle at 4 1/4″.
Coordinating pieces of Sunshine and Rainbows
FREE Sale-a-bration DSP
1 piece cut at 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″
2 pieces in a coordinating pattern cut to
5 1/2″ X 1 3/8″
2 scrap strips of Basic White and another
coordinating color (I used Bermuda Bay)
Die Cut to decorate pop up piece and
embellishments

Measure and score at 1/2″ from each side of the 5 1/2″ side of the cardstock. I use the lines on the right side of the Stampin’ Trimmer so there is more paper on the left side to align with the edge and keep the paper straight!
Measure and score at 2 1/8″ from each side of the 5 1/2″ side of the cardstock.
Measure and score at 2 5/8″ from each side of the 5 1/2″ side of the cardstock.
Measure and score at 3 1/8″ from each side of the 5 1/2″ side of the cardstock and once in the center of the cardstock at 4 1/4″.
Using a bone folder, crease all the score lines for crisp edges which is very important for all fun folds!
Placing the cutting blade just slightly to the right of the center score line cut a slit starting at the 4 1/2″ mark on the arm and sliding up to the 1″ mark on the top of that arm. Do the same thing just slightly to the left of the center score mark.
This will make a slit just to the outside edges of the center score line in the center of the paper.
Using your paper snips cut the ends of the slit to remove the card stock in between the two cut marks.
The slit should look like this centered on the card in the center fold.
Place Tear’n’Tape on the inside bottom 1/2″ scored piece of cardstock. Peel away the release paper to reveal the tape below.
Cut your three pieces of DSP:
one piece at 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ and 2 pieces in coordinating cardstock at 1 3/8″ x 5 1/2″.
Place the 3 1/4″ piece centered through the slit hole and line up the bottom of the DSP to the bottom of the Piece of cardstock covered in Tear’n’Tape (this will be the folded inside of the 1/2″ scored section of the cardstock base.)
Place a new piece of Tear’n’Tape across the bottom of the 3 1/4″ piece of DSP and peel.

Fold in the opposite 1/2″ score line towards the inside of the card and fold the two ends to meet together.

Looking from the side of the card the two inside edges of the 1/2″ score lines will be adhered together and will form a “diamond” shaped card in the process.

Adhere the 1 3/8″ x 5 1/2″ DSP pieces to the folds adjacent to the pop up feature.

Decorate the pop up feature as you choose, I added a die cut (if you add a delicate die cut make sure that the pieces are glued down so they do not catch on the mechanism as the card is pulled open and shut!

Stamp and add a sentiment to the front edge, is it is wider than the 1/2″ height of that ledge make sure to place the adhesive on the bottom edge so that the adhesive does not stick to the card and make opening it fully more difficult!

I added a few Artistry Blooms sequins and a die cut from the Brilliant Rainbows Die set and folded the card back and forth multiple times to help the score lines support the card in it’s free standing position. Now, the pop up card is ready to mail.

Now it is your turn to go out and make some art of your own – one stamp at a time!

Below are some of the samples I made for the Sale-a-bration Party today from the New Horizons Suite (#157782) (the Suite includes everything on the page – stamp set, coordinating dies, New accessories called Pebbles Enamel Shapes, and this fabulous 6 x 6 DSP called New Horizons)
The paper itself is enough decor for a card it is stunning. Add a sentiment like the FREE one you can earn with the purchase of this Suite plus a a few packs of paper and you are at the $100 subtotal for an order which qualifies for the Special Moments Sale-a-bration set used in many of these samples (this is a fantastic sentiments set for FREE during Sale-a-bration!

Here are just some of the designs in this stunning Designer Series Paper collection. 48 sheets – 4 each of 12 designs. New Horizons 6 X 6 DSP (#157768) coordinates with Polished Pink, Old Olive, Evening Evergreen, Soft Succulent, Misty Moonlight and Blackberry Bliss inks and cardstock!
This card uses a slightly different layout which I LOVE to use. Take a quarter sheet of colored cardstock 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ – this will be your base. Adhere a 8″ x 5 1/4″ scored at 4″ and adhered to the base piece. I cut a 1″ piece off the front of the Pear Pizzazz cardstock and adhered a 1″ x 5 1/4″ Basic white piece to the inside edge of the Pear Pizzazz Cardstock. I used a 3″ x3″ piece of DSP and mounted it onto a 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ piece of Evening evergreen cardstock and adhered the left side to the cardfront as shown. I stamped the sentiment from the Create with Friends stamp set added some new Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels (#158130) for a beautiful sparkly shine!
Another 3″ x 3″ DSP Section makes a simple card mounting the square onto Evening Evergreen Card stock and added the Iridescent Rhinestones on a Cinnamon Cider base with coordinating Evening Evergreen Open Weave ribbon to finish the card off!
The last card from this section of DSP is a 3″ x 6″ DSP cut to 3″ x 5 1/2″ adhered to the center of an Evening Evergreen Cardstock base and stamped in Tuxedo Black ink the sentiment from the new Sale-a-bration Sentiment stamp set Special Moments! This is as simple as it gets SIP – Stamps, Ink and Paper! Let this gorgeous DSP do all the heavy lifting!!
This DSP I cut the same as the last 2 3″ x 3″ pieces and one 3″ x 6″ cut down to 3″ x5 1/2″. The scene is already partially “watercolored” onto the paper. We are just finishing the scenes with sentiments and a few embellishments and stamps!
On Pear Pizzazz Cardstock base I used the 3″ x 5 1/2″ piece stamped with the tree and bird stamps from the On the Horizons stamp set. (#157779). I stamped the Relax sentiment from that stamp set and die cut with the Stitched So Sweetly dies (#151690) and Matte Black Dots!
On a Soft Sea Foam base I added a 2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Evening Evergreen embossed with the Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing Folder and mounted the DSP 3″ x 3″ piece onto a 3 1/4″ square piece of Calypso Coral CS and added it to the cardfront with some Green Holiday rhinestomes and some died Petal Pink ribbon.
Using the stamps from the After the Storm set I added the rays in Calypso Coral ink on the same color cardstock for a tone-on-tone effect. I stamped the small circle stamp from the Watercolor Shapes to make a sun first stamped in Crushed Curry and then rimmed in Calypso Coral and stamped directly onto the DSP then double mounted the DSP onto Crushed Curry and Basic White CS. I adhered the DSP directly to the Crushed Curry CS piece and then popped up that double layer onto the layer of Basic white and added it to the cardfront. I stamped the sentiment on the card front bottom and added a few Rhinestones.
The next 6″ x 6″ piece of DSP reminded me of a galaxy so I pulled out the To the Moonstamp set and stamped the next three cards with this stamp set!
Polished Pink base cut 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″. Stamped directly onto the DSP with the stars and sentiment in Blackberry Bliss and adhered to the center of the card front. Add some Rhinestones and Black Glittered Organdy ribbon and this easy card stuns with a quick and easy finish!
These two cards use the other 3″ x 3″ sections of the DSP and combine for three easy and pretty cards iwth Blackberry Bliss coordinating Cardstock.
At first glance this paper looks dark and moody but it makes four totally diverse cards out of one sheet of 6″ x 6″ DSP! The top half of the paper the sky is light and bright and makes two pretty cards for Birthday and thinking of you occasions.
The other two cards use the bottom half of the sheet of DSP that is darker and moodier in style and color – so these two cards were made into a Sympathy and a “hang in there” card! All beautiful and totally different!
This DSP is a best buy for this new catalog – it is one of those products that makes card making a breeze!

If you are interested in placing an order – use the current hostess code X2MZBXQS – if you spend $50 in subtotal do not forget to pick a Sale-a-bration level one!
