triadic color theory charming day fun fold card

triadic color theory charming day fun fold card

All this month we explored color theory in my posts and in my classes – this is a triadic color combination taking inspiration from our new Online Exclusive suite Floral Charm and our awesome Color Coach!

This easy Book Bind fun fold uses three colors that are positioned in a triangular pattern on the Color Wheel – Night of Navy, Timid Tiger and Mossy Meadow.

Measurements:
BASE: Night of Navy CS: 4 1/4″ x 11″
scored at 5 1/2 and 6 3/4″
scraps for leaf dies
Basic White CS: (2) 4″ squares (1) 3″ x 4″
Floral Charm DSP: 1″ x 4″

Place glue in between the two score lines and adhere the panels together to make a book bind fun fold.
Adhere the 1″ x 4″ DSP strip to the outside left-hand panel.
Stamp the “Hey” sentiment from the Charming Day stamp set in Night of Navy ink on the upper left-hand corner of one of the 4″ square layers add an ellipsis (those three dots after a word that is used to indicate a pause) with the Night of Navy Stampin’ Write marker.
Place this Basic White 4″ square in the Distressed Tile 3D embossing folder and emboss that layer.
Adhere to the right-hand panel of the card front.
I stamped the branch and the inside sentiment from the Charming Day stamp set in Night of Navy ink on the other 4″ square layer and adhere to the inside of the card.
Stamp the floral image from the stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento ink on the 3″ x 4″ Basic White layer.

Using the Blender Pen, color the flower with Timid Tiger ink and the leaves with the Mossy Meadow ink. Die cut the flower, and pop it up on Stampin’ Dimensionals in the opposite corner as the “Hey” sentiment.

Cut the longer leaf die cut in half and tuck all three foliage pieces under the popped up floral image.

Adhere the Navy Opal Rounds Assortment embellishments for a perfectly coordinated finishing touch! I love triadic color combinations the colors are very balanced and pleasing.
Search the color coach page in our current catalog if you do not have one it is a worthwhile investment! Choose a triadic color combination and create some artwork of your very own – one stamp, one color at a time!

more color mondays – copper clay, boho blue and night of navy

More Color Monday’s blog post features an upcoming masculine style aerial suite called Take to the Sky Suite Collection and this sneak peek is filled with rich regal colors of Copper Clay and Night of Navy paired with our Boho Blue In Color. This suite includes stamps and coordinating dies, fabulous Designer Series paper in hues of Boho Blue, Copper Clay, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy and Smoky Slate.

Today’s card tutorial will give you all the details to make an extended book bind Z-fold card perfect for the guy in your life or an flying enthusiast!

Measurements:
BASE: Copper Clay CS: 4 1/4″ x 11″
scored at 2 1/8″, 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″
scraps for the plane dies
(1) 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″
Boho Blue layer: 2″ x 4″
Basic White layers: (1) 3″ x 4″ and (1) 4″ square
scraps for the plane dies and banner
DSP: (2) 1″ x 4″ pieces

Score the base at 2 1/8″, 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″
place glue between the score lines at 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″ and secure making a book bind fold.
Stamp the industrial metal riveted stamp image in Night of Navy ink onto the Boho Blue layer. I stamped in opposite corners.
Adhere the Boho Blue CS layer to the inside middle panel.
Adhere the 4″ square to the back inside of the card base.
Adhere one of the DSP 1″ strips to the right hand side of the 4″ Basic White CS square.
I stamped the smaller airplane image and the You’re the Best Plane and Simple sentiment in Copper Clay ink to the inside Basic White layer.
Fold back the first panel towards the book bind panel on the left hand side of the card base.
Place Tear & Tape strips on the top of the layer that was turned to the left (this was the inside of the card but when it was folded back on itself it is now on the outside of the card base)
Adhere the Copper Clay layer with the left hand edges matching up to the panel with the Tear & Tape on it. This will extend the Z Fold.
Stamp the cloud image in Boho Blue ink onto the Basic White 3″ x 4″ layer and adhere to the extended Z fold Copper Clay layer just added to the card front.
Die cut the plane image in Copper Clay and Basic White and die cut in Copper Clay the propellers and the tail piece for the banner. Die cut the banner in Basic White CS and stamp in Night of Navy ink the to my friend sentiment.
Take the Paper Snips and cut a straight line from the V to 1/4″ – 1/8″ before the To word in the sentiment and cut a banner edge to shorten the die cut to the size of the sentiment.
Glue together the plane die cut pieces.
Adhere the propellor pieces to the nose of the die cut plane and add the tail piece to the banner.
Adhere the plane die cut to the card front. Make sure that the edges of the plane and the banner do not extend past the edges of the card when closed so it will fit into an envelope.
Add Industrial Trinkets to the card front.
This fun fold will stand on it’s own for display! How fun is this!!

book binding fun fold leftovers card

book binding fun fold leftovers card

I set out after designing Wednesday’s blog post card to use both the positive and negative vellum die cut pieces and this is the card I designed for the negative portion of the Everyday Details die set. This is such a cool die set (It actually coordinates with the Everyday Details stamp set in a bundle that saves you 10% – but I actually just bought the die set because it is so versatile!)

I had a second piece of 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of cardstock from the card on Wednesday that was scored at 4 1/4″ so I used that and scored it additionally at 5 1/2″ to make the base for the Book Bind Fun Fold.

Measurements:
BASE: Basic White cardstock: 4 1/4″ x 11″
scored at 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″
DSP: 1″ x 4 1/4″
leftover handmade DSP from 1-10-24’s blog
post cut to 4 1/4″ in length I saved the small
piece I cut off and placed it in the inside
corner.
Embossed piece: One of my customers at my
open house last week placed adhesive on the
wrong side of her embossed layer so I gave
her another piece and told her to watch for
the blog post that I would use her “mistake”
and I repurposed it for the background.
Sentiment piece: was repurposed from an extra
I had made from the 1-10-24 post as well!

Score the 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of cardstock at 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″. Adhere between the two score lines and press to seal creating the book bind fun fold.
Adhere the 1″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Smoky Slate DSP to the book bind panel.
I cut the other half of the handmade Designer Series paper from my last Wednesday’s blog post on 1-10-24 post to 4 1/4″ in length and adhered it to the opposite side of the card front.
I cut an embossed piece of Painted Posies 3D paper to fit inside the DSP and handmade DSP spot.
I repurposed a second sentiment piece from the 1-10-24 blog post and fussy cut a banner edge to the sentiment piece and then matted it with Basic White cardstock and fussy cut a matching banner cut. I then adhered it over the negative Everyday Details die cut and added mini glue dots to the covered back areas and adhered it to the card front.
I added 5 Brushed Metallic Adhesive-Backed dots to the vellum die piece. If you replicate this idea it is easier to add the embellishments first and then add mini glue dots to all the areas that the embellishments cover instead of doing it after adhering down the vellum!
(Do as I say LOL not as I do!) Much easier to do it in that order than the way I did it!

Hope you enjoyed this book bind leftovers card! I love how it turned out sometimes challenging yourself to make something fun out of leftover pieces turns out a lovely card and it definitely stretches that creative bone in your body that you might not have known even existed! Try stretching your creative bone in your body soon and try to create your own artwork from pieces you have already on your desk – let me know how it turns out! Now go and create – one stamp at a time!

Looking for a different card to spice up your card making – this is a great fold for SO MANY reasons!!
1. it’s simple!
2. It is the same size as a regular card but has an interesting twist – so it fits into a regular sized envelope!
3. with just a simple modification you can change any regularly cut cardstock into a Book Binding card!

Measurements:
Daffodil Delight Cardstock – cut at 4 1/4″ x 11
scored at 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″
Designer Series Paper
1″ x 4″
1/2″ x 4″
4″ x 4″
Basic White Cardstock
4″ x 4″
scraps for die cutting and stamping

Cut your cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 11″
Score at 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″.
As pictured above!

Crease the score lines with your bone folder and then place some multipurpose glue in between the two scored lines and close the card at the 5 1/2″ middle score line. Burnish the glued section to help distribute the glue and adhere the two sides of the cardstock together.

After the section adheres it will look like the picture below…
Adhere the 1″ x 4″ piece to the top section of the card.
Adhere the 4″ x 4″ to the bottom panel of the front of the card.
Adhere the 4″ x 4″ Basic White section to the card inside section and adhere the 1/2″ x 4″ piece to the bottom portion of the Basic White piece as shown in the photos below.
Die cut one of the flower images from the hand Penned Petals stamp set and adhere to the card front with your choice of sentiments.
Add some genial gems for sparkle and you are done!
I hope you will try this fun and easy card fold soon and create your art one stamp at a time!
