sliding lock butterfly card

The inspiration for this card came from Demonstrator Rachel Tessman, I loved the card she made and wanted to bring you my own design of her version! This card uses a sliding mechanism to “lock” the card closed. Using punches and Stampin’ Dimensionals this is a fun card to make and give to someone special!

 Measurements

Just Jade Cardstock (#153079)
* 5-1/2” x 10-1/2” scored parallel to the short end at 4-1/4” and 8-1/2”
*2-1/2” Circle (#120906)
Basic White Thick Cardstock (#159229)
*2-1/2” Circle (#120906)
Basic White Cardstock (#159276)
*4′ x 5 1/4″ die cut with the largest die from the
Stitched Rectangle die set (#148551)
**Butterfly Bijou Designer Paper (#156824)
*4” x 5-1/4”
*¾” x 1-3/4”

Score with your Stampin’ Trimmer (#152392) just before the 4 1/4″ just a smig! and score at 8 1/2″

The picture above shows the Score position just before the 4 1/4″ just a smig!

Between the 8 1/2″ score line and the end of the cardstock is a 2″ section mark a tick mark at 1″ with a pencil and cut on a diagonal from the 1″ tick mark to the bottom corner of the paper.
The base cardstock will look like this once you’ve scored and cut the end!

Measure the 1 3/4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Butterfly Bijou DSP (#156824) and make a tick mark in pencil at 3/4″ and cut from the tick mark to the bottom corner – this piece of DSP will go on the smaller 2″ section of the card and adhere to the base card.  Adhere the 4′ x 5/14″ DSP to the left hand flap of the card.

Using the Classic Label punch (#141491) , place the base of the card all the way until the card edge hits the bottom of the punch and the card edge appears about half way across the window of the punch (see photo above – I think it’s easier to visualize this!)

Close the smaller right panel and with a pencil mark the outline of the punch hole on the right side flap.
Slip the punch into the left sided flap and line up the punch with the pencil marks and punch out through both cardstock and the DSP layer, save the punch pieces to use later.
Add the Just Jade 2 1/2″ circle punched from the 2 1/2″ punch (#120906) the the inside of the card and temporarily secure with a post it note. Close the card and add two Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430) as shown in the picture below!

Remove the post it note and after stamping a sentiment and decorating on the Thick Basic White cardstock circle punched from a 2 1/2″ Circle Punch(#120906), remove the backing from the Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430) and adhere the Thick Basic White cardstock (#159229) circle to the card.

I used the punched out cardstock as pull tabs and mounted it under the circle in one example and under the butterfly in the other sample.  I also added a second Just Jade circle adhered on top of the Thick Basic White cardstock circle for a sturdier pull for the sliding lock mechanism.

This is my first sample with the sliding lock mechanism slid to the left.

And here is a picture of the inside Sliding Mechanism of the card.
