creating a fun night time background

creating a fun night time background

One of my favorite stamping tools is the Blending Brush made of super soft fibers like a makeup brush but so so soft! Picking up ink colors and burnishing a card stock layer with the ink.
Creating a night time background is easy and fun.

Measurements:
BASE: Night of Navy CS: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
Basic White CS: 4″ x 5 1/4″
scraps for die cuts

Brush the Basic White layer with Blueberry Bushel ink.

Brush the same paper with another layer of ink – Coastal Cabana.
Place a few drops of Craft White ink in the tray of the Craft White ink pad and add a few drops of water from a Water Painter and mix until combined.
Tap the edge of the Water Painter on the edge of a Bone Folder over the cardstock layer and create splatters on the layer.
Die cut Trees from the Peaceful Trees die set and color the large and medium trees with the remaining ink on the Blending Brushes.
Adhere the trees to the right side of the Basic White colored layer.
Adhere the colored layer onto the Night of navy cardstock.
Stamp “A VERY merry” stamp from Decorative Trees stamp set in Coastal Cabana ink onto a square die cut from the Stylish Shapes die set.
Stamp the word Christmas from Peaceful Season in Night of Navy ink and die cut.
Brush the edges of the square die cut with Blueberry Bushel.
Adhere the square die cut diagonally on the left side of the card. Adhere the Christmas die cut under the Coastal Cabana sentiment.
Add five Iridescent Adhesive-Backed Discs to the card front.
Try this background technique and go create some artwork of your very own – one stamp at a time.

more color mondays – berry burst, old olive and fresh freesia

more color mondays – berry burst, old olive and fresh freesia

Today’s More Color Mondays color challenge is layers of glimmer and trees of Berry Burst, Old Olive and Fresh Freesia in a non-traditional Christmas card for this installment of More Color Mondays.

Measurements:
BASE: Berry Burst CS: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
scored at 4 1/4″
scrap for Christmas die cut
Basic White CS: 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
scrap for Christmas die cut
4″ x 5 1/4″ for background layer
Fresh Freesia CS: scrap for circle die
Glimmer paper: 2″ strips for tree die cuts

Using a blending brush, color the Basic White CS 4″ x 5 1/4″ with Berry Burst ink.
Spray the layer with a Stampin’ Spritzer and coat with a fine layer of water spritz.
Sprinkle the layer with the Wink of Stella pen.
Emboss the layer with the Distressed Tile 3D embossing folder.
Adhere the layer onto the 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ Basic White layer.
Adhere both layers to the card base.
Stamp the “in your heart” sentiment onto the Basic White circle die cut from the Stylish Shapes die set with Berry Burst ink.
(I eventually changed this layer to Fresh Freesia CS)
Die cut the Glimmer Paper with the Peaceful Evegreens die set.
Adhere to the left side of the card base.
Pop up the circle with Stampin’ Dimensionals onto the right-hand side of the card base.
I die cut the Christmas word die from the Peaceful Seasons dies from Berry Burst CS.
Adhere to the top half of the circle die.
Die cut the Christmas word matte in Basic White CS.
Emboss it in the Distressed Tile 3D embossing folder.
I decided I needed the white matte under the Berry Burst CS for the Christmas word die.
I added some Natural Linen Thread in green around the White and brushed layer.
I had added pink Pastel Adhesive-Based Sequins.
I replaced the Basic White circle with a Fresh Freesia circle.

This unusual winter scene is bright and beautiful! Try this layered technique and create a non-traditional Christmas card.

Now go and create some artwork of your own – one stamp at a time.

dutch barn door fun fold with regal winter paper

dutch barn door fun fold with regal winter paper

Today I have another fun fold to teach you – this one is a Dutch Barn Door fun fold card featuring some beautiful floral Designer Series paper from the current mini catalog called Regal Winter.

Measurements:
BASE: Basic White CS: 8 1/2″ x 8 3/4″
score along the 8 1/2″ side at 2 1/8″ from both
sides.
Score along the 8 3/4″ side at 2 1/4″ and 5 1/2″
DSP: upper dutch door 3″ x 4″
lower dutch barn doors: (2) 1 7/8″ square
Night of Navy CS:
outside matte: 2 7/8″ square
inside matte: 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″
Basic White CS:
outside sentiment piece: 2 3/4″ square
inside piece: 3 3/4″ x 5″

Cut across the 2 1/4″ score lines to the first intersecting score line at 2 1/8″. Then cut along the 2 1/8″ score line through the 5 1/2″ intersecting score line and cut to the top of the card stock. Do this on both sides of the card, see photo!
The small “doors” on the bottom of the card base will fold inward to meet each other in the middle of the card and the top piece will fold downward towards the barn doors and meet in the middle as well.
Cut the Basic White and Night of Navy cardstock as above in the Measurement section.
Cut the DSP if there is a pattern try to cut the pattern so it matches or at least is adhered in the same direction.
Adhere the 1 7/8″ square DSP pieces to the barn doors on the bottom.
Adhere the inside Night of Navy 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″ matte to the 3 3/4″ x 5″ Basic White to each other and adhere to the inside of the card – hiding the 2 1/4″ score line.
Adhere the larger DSP to the top panel.
I stamped the “MAY YOUR HOLIDAY SEASON BE FILLED WITH WARMTH AND Cheerful Celebration” sentiment with Night of Navy ink onto the smaller Basic White piece. Brush with Night of Navy Blending Brush and adhere to the Night of Navy matte.
Place a strip of Tear & Tape to the top of the backside of the sentiment pieces and add to the top flap of the card when it is closed.
Add Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the sentiment piece and this fun fold card is complete! I really liked this paper but didn’t purchase the set that goes with it. This DSP is so pretty it can stand alone with just adding a sentiment from a set you already own! I love this non-traditional Holiday card!
Try one for yourself – take non traditional colors or paper and create a lovely and unexpected holiday card!
Now go and create some art work of your very own – one stamp, one sentiment, one sheet of DSP at a time!
